Good Pace Watch

I've been considering investing in a good pace watch but I have to admit I don't know much about them. I was thinking of something that could track my speed and distance etc. I don't know if these are sold seperately from heart rate monitors or not or if it's all built into one.

I used to have a York heart rate monitor but I think it's broken now. I have to admit I never particularly liked the chest strap that came with it. You had to hook this elastic band in through two slots on either end of a plastic piece but I felt like any little twist or turn would cause the ends to slide out of the slot and the thing would fall off. If I was going to buy one with a heart rate monitor, I'd prefer it had a better or more secure way to fasten the chest strap.

I like a lot of people use Garmin's when they buy these?

Garmins are great - they'll tell you how far you've run, how fast, how fast you did each mile, let you set up workouts etc.
    BUT
they're expensive, about 150 euro. Anything with a GPS, that can give you an accurate distance and pace reading, is going to be about that expensive.

If you don't want to pay that much, you could just get a simple stopwatch, and use mapmyrun (or a park with a marked route) to see how far you've gone.

I think I'd like something that tracked my distance and time too. What would be a good model to go for?

I've a 305 - it looks a bit chunky but feels fine on, has all the features you'd want, and is (I think) the cheapest option. There might be more comparison data on the Garmin megathread. Costs about 150 quid from ebay or amazon.

    Cheers.

Yeah I was looking at Sub4 and they had some but the GPS type ones all seemed to be coming in about €200 but on Amazon they seemed a lot cheaper. Will have a gander at the Garmin thread too, but just wanted some quick info as that thread is quite long :)

I'd recommend a garmin as well especially if you like to look at data after a run and see how your pace was. I'd recommend shop around on the net as there is a huge disparity in prices. You'll see the 305 from 150euros to over 200 euro's.
