There seems to be a few baby/kids related threads here and frankly I think the OP of the thread linked above is batsh*t, but thats just me.

So, would you get yourself sterilised?

It wouln't mean the not being able to have kids, I mean you could always get sperm/eggs frozen and have the option of having kids later i.e. when financially and emotionally stable.

Edit: Did some googling and a vasectomy is €650.

No but I would certainly volunteer some others for it.

The only way I'd get myself sterilised is if the mixing of my dna & my fiances dna would result in any potential children having serious health problems.

Otherwise I wouldn't see the point.

    Yes I would.

But not right now, I'm 26 and pretty adamant that I won't have kids, I REALLY can't imagine myself ever wanting one. However, I'm open minded enough to accept that I might change my mind.

If in my 30's I feel the same then I probably will. It's not such a big deal, a vasectomy is reversible anyway.

edit: LOL, I would not get one done at that site linked in the OP! I really shouldn't judge on the quality of a website, but... seriously?

edit 2: Doesn't actually seem to be all that reversible, so definitely wouldn't get one soon.

    1/4 + 1/4 = 1/2?

I dunno, fractions (or numbers) arent my thing.

    1/2 + 1/2 = 1

    1/4 of 1/2 + 1/4 of 1/2 = 1/2 of 1/2

    1/2 of 1/2 = 1/4 of 1

When did this thread become a class about fractions?

It should be about who we can force to sterilise themselves for the good of the human race.

Thought it was fairly reversible for guys

Me too, although the site the OP linked to says that it's ''difficult'' and should be looked upon as a permanent solution.

Two conditions: there should be some sizeable financial incentive to it and I should still be able to bring myself to orgasm.

And there I was thinking it was about volunteering to be sterilised. I'm considering it. I already have friends with kids, making me an honorary uncle several times over. I can be the guy who brings "the toys that make the noise", then leaves. :pac:

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

Of course you can bring yourself to orgasm afterwards it's just a vasectomy. Had one about 7 years ago. Got it done by Dr O Leary in Finglas. Lovely guy has been doing them for years and from what I remember a good bit cheaper then the link in first post.

Saw a programme about this on RTE a few years ago and from what I recall its not just a case of going to the doctor and asking for your lads to be untethered. They ask you (and your partner if you have one) loads of questions and I think they are pretty reluctant to give you the snip if you don't already have kids since its all but permanent.

Personally I would opt for it, I don't have kids or want any (nearly 30 so I can't see that changing) but I'm not willing to pay 650 yoyo's to have it done. If anything if an old man with cold hands wants to play around with my balls he should be paying me:pac:

Sterilisation is possible for a woman under 35. In fact, I know one who had her tubes tied at 29.

Atari Jaguar is the "I don't care / have no real opinion on the subject" poll option. It is often very cleverly & frequently hilariously* changed to stuff like "Atari Shaguar" to suit the particular poll.

Why would you need to be sterilised? Just don't let the juice get into critical areas and you'll be fine.

What about people in long term relationships who don't want children/have all the children they want? Would you expect your other half to stay on the pill? Would you want to use condoms for the rest of your life?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,148 ✭✭✭✭KnifeWRENCH

Voted 'Maybe' in the poll - I'd certainly consider it. I never want children; some people are just not cut out for parenthood and I know I would be a terrible father. Tbh I don't think I'd care very much if I found out in the morning I was sterile. Kids will not be a part of my future, so sterilisation isn't out of the question for me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,379 ✭✭✭Sticky_Fingers

Hmm was gonna thank knifeWRENCH but it could be construed that I want him/her sterilised, a unforeseen flaw in the thanks system if you ask me.

Yes, give me sterilisation please. I have two children. I am finished adding to my family. Unfortunately in Ireland it is virtually impossible for a woman under 35 to be sterilised.

I think I know you. Stop bringing the noisy toys. They make me drink wine before noon.

I have two kids and am not convinced either way that I want another. But I don't think I would get sterilised. I am only 30 so the way I see it I don't know what is around the corner for me.

I can understand that it can be a valid choice for those who defo don't want kids or for health reasons/genetic reasons do not wish to start /add to a family.

I think it is just a bit too final??

Have you ever thought of giving your "mommy's medicine" to the little tikes, quietens them right down

If I had scabies, crabs, head lice or some other type of unmentionable affliction, I would definitely get myself sterilised...

Doesn't sound like he's a very good doctor if you've only orgasmed once, seven years ago.
