Broken Dell Inspiron screen

Hey guys. My sis warned numerous times not to pick up her laptop by the screen is finally gonna learn an expensive lesson it seems. The screen is cracked. I have dismantled it and found the part number but I need a little help at this point.
I took it to my local repair shop just to see what price he could give me (I had been hunting online with mixed success) and he claimed what I found online were only compatible monitors and a dell would not work properly with them. I'm sure I've read something similar before but can't find any mention of it.
Can anyone shed some light on the situation as so far every seller I have asked who were selling the model come back with "it's compatible". I don't want her spending €90 on something that doesn't work..
