    Hi,

recently got a contract job,the recruitment lady said i would be paying my own prsi and tax while working and also asked me how much money i was looking for which i told her...in hindsight should i have aimed higher as i presume paying my own prsi, tax etc will decrease my wage...anyone else work this way? just a bit new to me smile.gif

    Thanks

I've come across it before, it has its advantages and disadvantages, depends on what the job is?
you could be vat reg'd and if you have a diesel vehicle claim against your fuel costs(to and from work or if you travel for work, depends on the job) you wont be paying a certain class of prsi and will mean you wont be entitled to certain state benefits but if the job is good money, how much pray tell did you ask them for?

I'd always let them mention their figure first, then try up it to take into account their allowance to save money, but at least its a job.
Does it involve driving/travel? if so do they provide a vehicle? whats the job?

If thats all they are offering re payment of taxes then I'd go for it, as to how much more they might have offered, maybe they wouldnt have offered more, maybe not, but its been accepted by you now anyway, least you have a job, I kinda wouldnt mind that circumstance.

Well they asked me how much i was looking for so i gave them that figure, its only a 20 -30 min drive and its an i.t contract...should i have aimed higher? will paying my own way decrease my wage much do you reckon? Thanks for your info :)

honestly I have no idea what IT rates are and given that there arent many jobs around, I'd be happy enough with 30k and if its not far thats not too bad either.
