Fermat's Last Theorem states that no three positive integers a, b, and c can satisfy the equation a(to the power of n) + b(to the power of n) = c(to the power of n) for any integer value of n greater than 2.

Not sure if it has any relevance to 3x+1 or 3x+2.

There's a book called "Fermat's Last Theorem" which is a good enough read...perhaps a trip to your local library would solve your query.
