If i buy some goods from america value 250 dollars. Does anyone know how much the duty charges i will be charged before i recieve them. I was told by the supplier that i would have to pay some but not sure how much. I dont want to buy something that will cost me an arm and a leg to clear

VAT will be 21% of total cost (including delivery cost), unless your item falls into a lower vat rate category.
Duty may not be added, but it'll vary anyway so can't answer that one for you.

You'll also have to pay a handling/admin fee if the courier sorts out the above for you, which will probably be at least 10euro

In short, expect to pay about 30% in tax and charges.

Generally speaking, Customs will charge you 21% VAT and if it's going through An Post, they'll slap a €6 handling charge on it.

That said, you don't always get 'caught', so you may not be charged anything. I'd make sure you have the extra money available incase it does get stopped by customs, but if not then happy days.

Worth noting, some postal companies are a pain in the ass (I'm looking at you Fed-Ex!). they'll deliver your item with a smile, and then send you a customs charge a month later when you least expect it. So be aware of that.

I think the courier will be ups according to supplier. I was thinking, its 3 items that the total value is 250 dollars including delivery. I am in no hurry to get them all so if i was to order them one at a time it might be away round paying loads of tax as the items range from 40 dollars is the cheapest and 120 is the dearest while the other one 50 dollars . What do ye think?

€22 is the limit, so ordering separately will result in you paying the handling fee 3 times. Not a good idea.
