I have a formula i do when working out whether a game is good value for money

I divide the cost into hours i played the game to get a cost per hour

The best value game i ever had was probably timesplitters 2 which i bought for a fiver and played ( with friends as well ) for over 100 hours

What do people thing there best value for money game is??

I have a formula too, but it goes out the window 99% of the time. Whats another fiver, ah sure it's only an extra tenner, all the way up to...sure an extra hundred now will save me in the future. Ad infinitum & brokeness :o

I only do this formula after i have bought a game not before.

I also spend far to much money on games. I promised to start saving for my wedding next year but bought 5 retro games this week which in total cost as much as a wedding cake!!

Screw the formula, if I enjoy a game then I've enjoyed it. It's all that matters.

Ah! I hate that. It's ebay all over.

'Ah what's another fiver. Only another fiver after that. I'll bid another fiver. And another one. Sure I'm in now, might as well bid another one. '

Auction ends and you now owe the seller €100.

    Feck.

I suppose it depends what you define as good value for money. I've gotten some amazing good value for money games but not really played them yet.

I'm I'm out for a really specific game I follow this formula-

    If it's a new game -

See what the new price is.

See what the second hand price is.

Get it for 2/3 the second hand price.

    If it's a rare/old game -

Check the buy it now price.

Watch a load of auctions and see what they are ending at.

Get it for 2/3 that auction price.

Do NOT go over that 2/3 price in a bidding war.

The only exception I have for the above is if it's a one off item. Then I can get a little crazy.

Ah now I'd say some of the best value for money games I've ever gotten were the ISS games for the snes, n64 and ps1. Not because of how accurately they've recreated the sport, but because they're so much fun to play.

Admittedly I'm a football fan (c'mon Derby County :p) but regardless of that some football games are just great, independent of the sport they're based on. Sensi anyone??

I'm actually still playing it. Got Ireland to the finals of the World Cup the other day, lost 2-0 to Argentina but knocked out France, Serbia and Italy to get there. Oh the memories.

Pokémon blue or yellow. Well over 150 hours gone into each and this was when I first got them! And they say kids don't have patience :P

I remember buying ISS Pro for the PSX from Virgin Megastores around 1997 or 1998, it was platinum and 19.99 Punts....I miss those punts :/

Was a totally different experience from my years of playing FIFA, really challenging gameplay. ISS Pro Evolution was a huge leap, imo the best football game for the Playstation.

Hard to say whats value for money really...
I mean is the Fifa that your going to play to death before replacing it with a "almost the same but with the cover year+1" edition 12 months later?
Is the copy of Rage Racer that I still play all those years later good value?

Is the copy of Steel Battalion I got, that I have played all of 15 times since I bought all those years ago but couldn't be separated from, value for money?

Best recent buy for me was Persona 3 FES and Persona 4 together for 40 euros. 200+ hours of probably the 2 best RPGs I've ever played.

For every 100+ hour game I've played and loved, there's been a short game like Portal that I've spent less time playing, but loved just as much. I reckon 5 fantastic hours spent with one game can be better value for money than 50 decent hours with another.

I just bought mirrors edge and its supposed to be short but Im enjoying every minute of it. Just running at things has never brought so much fun.
