Just after replacing a stolen Ifor Willams trailer and I'm wondering what is the best type of wheel clamp / lock to use. It would seem that there is alot of horsebox/trailer theft going on . So an extra lock might prove cheap .

no lock will stop them if they want it, but we have found that the best way of protecting a lot of your property is with electric gates, it stops the vans and cars just driveing into your yard and letting them have a look around. the gates are dear the day you put them in but they give you great comfort and also you know if the cattle get out of the yard in the winter the gate will be closed.

what is the story with electric gates and the milk lorry etc? also saw this thing where you can get your phone number engraved into your trailer in numerous places

give the milk lorry driver a zapper to open the gates, a lot of farmers are getting them around here.

The phone number engraving sounds like a good idea . If the buyer has any sense or wants to know where his /her new trailer has come from. Still wondering about clamps locks etc.

Not much use in stopping the thief but i put up sensor light with built in camera so that a picture is taken day or night when the sensor comes on. I have lots of photos of my sheepdog and milk lorry but have a few pictures of dodgy fellas too and not just me. They about 160 euro in irish independant and at least you have a record of who comes into your yard with photo of numberplate

The electric gates are a good idea, they do stop the "would you like some tarmacing done" brigade from driving into the yard.
After that, you can't beat a good dog.
In my area, one neighbour had a cattle box stolen a while back, his nephew, a guard, recovered it for him about 60 miles away in a halting site.
Recently, another neighbour had one of those hitch locks on his trailer. They tried to take the box, but couldn't. They stripped all the lights off instead. Can you believe that?
