Basic speaker question

    Hi,
Currently i have a Toshiba tv and UPC digital box. To control the volume we leave the tv's speakers at "level 21" and use the digital box remote to control the volume on top of that. So basically we have two volume controls, the tv's speakers and the digital box - hope that makes sense.
Anyway the audio quality is not great, on the back of the digital box there is a " L and R" jack for speakers - i think its an RCA one, metal ring with metal pin inside the ring.

So my question is, can anyone recommend a nice pair of LOW budget stereo ( 2.0 ) speakers? Are the 3W ones you get for PC's ok ( like logitech )? I just don't know what kinda connector comes with them. My budget is around €50

    Thanks:

Those are line out connections , speakers alone arnt going to do it , you need an amp as well. You cannot connect those directly to speakers.

You can get devices called soundbars with built in amps ... that sounds like what you might be happy with.

    See here ,

Sorry , but cannot see you getting anything useful for €50

You would be much better off turning the UPC box volume to near maximum, leaving it there and then using the TV volume controls. If you lower the volume on the UPC box and turn up the TV to compensate you are increasing the amount of noise in the signal from the UPC box, and then increasing the gain of the TV amps both of which increase the amount of noise in the audio signal.

My UPC box has a volume range of 1 to 10, and 8 is the recommended level to use - it's actually identified as 'best' in the on screen menu.
