Is there a scale for applying general play cuts ?
Like for Team events. How many wins or places do you have to accumulate before you are cut?
I figured in 2 four man teams - 2nd in both of them and was cut.
    Is this the general rule.
I had lost 0.8 between the last team score and the application of the cut.

i don't think there is a general rule, what our club had been doing was two significant scores.. however if you'd had lost a shot in a singles between the first and 2nd significant score than there would not be a GP cut...

    A similar(ish) handicap query..

I recently had 41 points in an open singles comp - at an away club - I rang the club to find out the standard scratch which turned out to be 35. Am I correct in cutting myself as follows:

    17.3 (current) - (6x0.3) = 15.5

15.5 rounds up to a playing handicap of 16

Is all this correct? Just curious as I am playing singles again tomorrow and want to be sure Im playing off the correct handicap...

Also, how long does it normally take for the away score to be updated on golfnet?

    Thanks,

    K

That is all correct, play off 16 tomorrow.

Away scores can take a while to reflect properly on golfnet. It has to be uploaded from the away club and then "downloaded" by your home club. You should see it first in your away scores and then your home club will "move" it to your main handicap sheet.

There should also be a book for your away scores in your clubhouse which you should fill in... your handicap sec will then know to look out for this score.

the team scores were in May and June, lost 0.8 in august and the general play cut applied after 0.8 cut.

You can't apply any formula to come up with general play cuts which seems kind of weird. There was previously a fixed amount that you'd get cut for a few good showings in team events but now they just come into account, usually when doing an end of year review but also a handicap committee may well think your ability isn't reflected in your current handicap and apply a general play cut. However, special permission would need to be sought from the GUI (province) to make ageneral play cut to a category 1 player or to cut a category 2 player into category 1.

Re: away scores, it depends on a couple of things. Assuming that you entered into the computer on the day, then your score would be uploaded once the away club closes the competition. Then your home club would download this score and it gets applied to your handicap. Should only take s couple of days because clubs are regularly checking in season so if it's taking longer than that then there's a problem somewhere...
