    Not amazing performance, I always tell my customers that when choosing a laptop always choose something a little more powerful then you need because as soon as you start installing anything it will slow down.

    I would recommend any of the studio range, I have one with 4GB ram 120GB drive and it can play the newest games on medium resolution smoothly.

    My thoughts exactly. The studio 15 is more expensive, but its really nice machine.

    Is it that the Inspiron isn't a good machine or the Studio is simply a better performer?

    Recently upgraded from an Inspiron 1545 to a Studio 1749. Both are good machines but anything the Inspiron could do, the Studio can do better / faster. Think of the Studio as the Inspiron's big brother. If money is a pressing issue however, the Inspiron is a perfectly good machine.
