I'm just wondering about this Window Energy Performance Scheme. Is it a true reflection of the performance of the windows?

Does anything have any idea what the Rating Index means?

    Thanks

    from the cert:
(Energy Index certified by NSAI Agrement and based on Irish standard
window. The actual energy consumption for a specific application will
depend on the building, the local climate and the indoor temperature)

    and
[ The WEP rating fixes numerous parameters in its
calculations such as orientation, number of days
in a heating season, effects of solar radiation, over
shading amongst others, in order to allow useful
    comparisons between window designs. ]

If the window is properly installed and the frame surround is airtight in the building then the rating is a measure of performance.

To replicate the actual performance u will will have to replicate the testing criteria/conditions.

The simplest example of this is the indoor temperature parameter.

The rating index is a measure of heat transfer for the window as a whole and not just the galss.

If your indoor temp is higher than the testing temp then the window will perform worse than the index.

In summary it is an attempt to weed out the cowboys and counteract the dubious claims of the window manufacturers associations who had started advertising their windows as being A rated based on complete BS.

ps the boffins over on C+P/RE are better skilled in this area
