VRT Calculations Experience

I'm currently trying to price a car in the UK + VRT. Twice before, I brought a car in with no extras and when it came to the actually payment, the VRT was less than the online quote I received (20%).
Has anyone else experience this before?
The reason being I'm on a tighter budget this time around.

    Many thanks

I think alot of it had to do with who you actually get on the day. I know when I VRT'd mine they gave me a figure of €800 more than the online quote. I'm guessing she put in the wrong spec i.e. Msport instead of SE on a BMW 520D. However when I showed her the online quote which I had printed out she said they would honour that. Also if its a Merc or BMW they will take the chassis no. and tell you to come back the next day when they have checked their system to see what extras were originally on the car. They then charge you a percentage of that depending on the age of the car.

AFAIK they don't go to the trouble if the car is over 4/5 years old...

In the past any VRT quote I got on-screen, was what I paid.
