Why do I have to pay a toll when traffic slows down?

A thought occurred to me yesterday using the M50. I was heading northbound for a meeting at the Airport around 2:45 and was delayed due to lane restricitons at the Blanchardstown exit for around 15 minutes resulting in me being late for my meeting. I use the M50 everyday and expect the journey time from Firhouse to M1 to be no more then 20 to 30 minutes

The delays yesterday were down to works so why should I be forced to pay for something that is 100% outside of my control as there is no benefit to me in using the motorway at this time, other routes would have got me there just as quick

So in order to keep the NRA on their toes is it an idea to not charge tolls if journey time drops a % below what would normally be expected at a praticular time of day

The Toll is for the West-Link bridge, not the M50!!!! ;)

You were delayed a whole 15 minutes OP??????

Jeez - I thought my 45 minutes Northbound last night, and about 30 minutes Southbound this morning were bad (accident at Lucan).

You really deserve a refund for all tolls paid!

Past Tense. The tool is for the M50 now.

assuming you had a typo, the Toll is for passing between Lucan and Blanch exits, it is not for using the m50, otherwise there'd be toll plaza's on all entrances. Now don't be giving the greens any ideas

The toll is now used to pay back the €600m that government paid to buy the Westlink bridge from NTR.

There is a toll proposed around Sandyford, for those that don't pass through the N4/N3 toll. You will only be charged once if you pass both of them.

It's being used to bail out Anglo Irish Bank.

You weren't slowed down because of lane restrictions you were slowed down by stupid , ignorant and/or selfish drivers that refuse to get in to their proper lanes or try to skips the queues of traffic and cause chaos

    Proposed in your mind?

There are no specific proposals for further tolling of the M50. The toll is still solely for the Westlink, as you inaccurately denied in your first post.

This was categorically denied earlier this year iirc
