    Okay so heres the question:
Does firing Semi-Auto (single fire) have a long term-negative effect on your AEG ?
and the same in reverse ....... Does firing Full-Auto (Rock n roll) have a long term-negative effect on your AEG ?

What type of firedo you use most ? 23 votes

A mosfet will remove the main negative of semi-auto and thats the corrosion of the physical trigger contacts. Bar that, I'd say the wear on an aeg will just come from how many shots it fires, auto or semi regardless.

Gameplay wise, I use bursts, a vitally over looked option in the poll! :p

Bursts would be full auto though. :)

i find when on semi-auto my battery dos not last as long (and yes i know what that sounds like) on my M4 as it would if i had it on full-auto full day on full auto half day on semi-auto :confused:

Selector on full auto but using an 8.4v battery gives better control on number of rounds per burst by lowering ROF.
I manage 2 or 3 per burst with GR15 raider.

Not always. Some AEG's have a mechanically controlled three round burst option on the fire selector. On top of that, with the right MOSFET, any AEG can be modified to have an electronically controlled burst option.
Neither count as full auto, so it is an overlooked option.

Incidentally, I've used semi, almost exclusively, since the day after my first skirmish. I switch to auto to access burst on occasion, but that's the extent of it.

i use semi mostly myself. i think my aeg likes me better for it, as i feel full auto all the time tires it out faster and wears parts out.

if you can take a guy out with a few shots on semi while remaining hidden, why go full auto and give yourself away

Oh yeah did not think of that, thought he just meant firing bursts on full auto.

In before 'I only use full auto to make cheaters bleed'.

I don't think this has to do with what people use game play wise, more so which wears your AEG more, which is an interesting topic, if it was about game play it's been covered many, many times.

Though ss mentioned above, I also found that when my battery's dying my AEG can turn over a shot on full auto, but not on semi.

After finishing a cycle of full auto, the piston is often at rest at around a half cycle position. It takes less power to complete that half cycle than, to start and complete a full cycle, as semi always rests in the start position.
This is also why it's recommended to fire a single semi shot (even if it's dry firing) before you store your AEG or enter the safe zone, as you don't leave the spring under stress.

I keep my gun on full auto, but generally single or 3-4 burst fire.

I do a mix of both really, never really tought about the wear it does to an aeg but it would be interesting to see which wears your AEG down more :)

I noticed that on the G&G raiders (dont know about any other AEGS) that the forward assist button decompresses the spring so before u put your AEG into storage all you have to do is press that button, cool feature i think.

It does indeed. It's a system that was really pushed by ICS over the years, being one of their unique features (and the split gearbox).
It's useful and clever, but not massively necessary. The practice of one semi shot does the same thing, and including that system is an extra expense and design that most manufacturers aren't pushed enough about to include because of that.

I would use semi to save money on bb's, not to cause any other players unnecessary harm and also to reduce the wear and tear on my gearbox.

And on the GBB semi is really my only choice with 30 round mags in a skirmish :p

Sorry just to clear a point , this is about the wear and tear on AEGs not your style of play.

TBH, I really think this poll shoudl have had a Burst option aswell, as that's what I think most airsofters do, including myself.

And, just out of curiousity, are people clicking Semi when they mean Burst? Cause there seems to be a fair amount of people firing on Semi, yet they are pretty rare at a skirmish (not attesting to Milsims, as I have yet to try one)
