problem with shortcut

    I have a laptop running on vista. I tried to open up a document that i have been working on for weeks. when i try to open it it says ( problem with shortcut, the item that this shortcut refers to has been changed or moved, so this shortcut will no longer work properly , do you want to delete this shortcut ?) Can anyone please help

    I have done a complete search of the laptop and cannot find it anywhere... I know it should have been backed up but i didn't....

    All ideas welcome please

    Use Photorec to try to recover the document (assuming it's been deleted).

    Where is the shortcut (i.e. on your desktop?) And where was the original file stored?
