Hi folks just looking for some information if anyone has it on grants. I'm 24 I've a Bachelors Degree, graduated in 08 and I am currently unemployed, just over a year. I applied for a 2 year course and I've been accepted however I live on my own and my only source of income is Job Seekers Allowance until I find work.
The course which I've been accepted for is a Higher National Diploma and I've been told by the Social Welfare that I do not qualify for Back To Education as the course is a lower level then the current degree I have.
I applied for VTOS and at the minute I'm 18th on the waiting list.

Just wondering does anyone know of any other avenues I could try to find a substitute for my current income while I start college?
I'm kinda stuck at the moment because without an income I can't go to college and support myself.

Any useful advice would be appreciated cheers.

    *Bump*
Am in the same position as the OP. Does anyone have any info to share on this subject.
I have looked at the Rules for BTEA and can find nothing regarding this as a reason for being refused

    Ok.. Just found it..

    http://www.welfare.ie/EN/OperationalGuidelines/Pages/bte_all.aspx#1.10

    1.10 Progression in education course

The approved full-time education course must lead to a higher qualification on the National Framework of Qualifications other than that already held. It is not considered that existing graduates should have an entitlement to BTEA to pursue a course at a similar qualification level as, inter alia, this can lead to displacement of persons seeking such qualifications for the first time. Reference should be made to the National Framework of Qualifications (see appendix 3) e.g. If a person holds a Fetac level 5 qualification, they must be progressing to a level 6 qualification.
