Lost iPod Touch in Taxi Today

    Hello,

Today I lost my iPod Touch in a taxi going to Ailesbury Road. I left it on the back seat. It was a silver Mercedes E Class taxi. The driver was sound and we chatted a good bit but then I hopped out without the iPod. It has all my emails, music and photos on it and I'd be very upset to not get it back.

I'll try ringing the carriage offices tomorrow (in Finglas, Irishtown etc. and hope it is there).

Would anyone have any more ideas on how to get it back?

I know how you feel man, I lost my iTouch last year on the train, I got off after a long day in college, I was the only person on the carriage when I was getting off in Drogheda (end of the line). I got off the train, got into the car drove out of the station, realised I'd forgotten it turned around and went back. I asked the station master was anything handed in he said no, I went and checked where I was sitting on the train, nothing. the cleaners hadn't been on the trai yet s I reckon it was the poxy train driver, i really pissed me off.

Hope youve better luck than I did man

Thanks guys for your advice. I'll let you know how I get on. I'll try ring Store Street garda station tomorrow and see what happens.

If anyone knows anyone with a silver Mercedes E Class taxi that might help!!!

Go to the Garda Carriage Office somewhere in Dublin Castle - taxi drivers are meant to leave stuff there if it turns up in their car. They have a phone number which I'm sure Google will help you find but they almost never answer it.

No I never got a receipt. I know what I did was really stupid but I'll try and get it back anyway. I may get some news on this tomorrow.

The Carriage Office are not based there anymore (They are now in Santry Garda Station) but they don't handle stolen property there anymore. There are contact details for the new lost property drop off points in the Taxi Stickie.

Ok I could be getting completely ridiculous now but the taxi I lost my iPod in was a car just like this (same colous, same design alloy wheels):

Would anyone know a taxi driver with the very same type of car? I'd give some a nice reward to get it back.

You could call the Taxi Regulator but asking them to contact the owner of every similar car is a long shot.

Ok so I have an update on my lost iPod situatiuon.

The taxi driver rang my home phone number (which I had on the iPod) and left a message with his mobile number. So I rang him and he said he has my iPod and will give it to me when we are both free to meet.

This is a huge relief. I'm so happy to get it back.

And it shows how honest, helpful and genuine the taxi driver I got was. He really went out of his way to make sure I got my iPod back. I can't belive my luck!

So how much is the reward for an iPod now a days?

I'm sure the taxi driver is doing it out of a sense of civic responsibility and we all commend them highly for it.

This type of good news reflects well on taxi drivers and it would be sullied by the discussion of monetary reward.

Chris, I think you have missed his point a little. If somebody leaves behind something of note in a taxi it goes without saying that they want it safely returned but our working time returning your valuables is being used. Let me put it to you like this; if you rang me up and asked me to pick up a lost iPod or wallet or suitcase from a pub and delivered back to your door you'd expect to pay the fare for same so it's nice to get some element of recompense for going out of our way to safely return it when all we have to do is drop it into the Gardaí :)

And you're possibly missing mine - if a good deed is being done, then it should be done for the right reasons and to make everyone's day a bit nicer.

Or else just leave it at the local Garda station for the OP to collect.

Or agree a delivery charge for the item with the OP.

If the OP is happy to offer a reward, that's absolutely fine with me. If I were in the driver's situation and was offered the reward, I'd refuse to take it. I'd meet the OP at a time/place that was convenient to both of us, and I'd go home whistling a happy tune content in the knowledge that I've made someone's day a little brighter.

    But that's just me... :D

Why would it be sullied I'm asking a direct question in reply to a post? Whether the OP rewarded the driver after saying they were offering one is between them and the driver but it's a valid question, What is the going reward rate for the return of an iPhone?

It was my opinion, that's all. See my post below. I've highlighted the important bit.
