2001+ Honda Civic Coupe

I'm thinking about buying a 2001 or 2002 Honda Civic coupe. Does anyone have one or know about them?

My main concern is how efficient they would be. Is the 1.7 engine sore on petrol?

Also, how reliable are they? I've had a Honda Civic before and it was fantastic, but what are the coupes like? I think they're all built in America.

Any thoughts or opinions would be welcome! Thanks

Hmmmmm I would stay away from anything Honda if I were you, if you are looking for a car to get you to work that is easy to maintain and good on the old petrol go for a Yaris, if your looking for something larger Nissan Almeras are cheap at the moment.

Really? I had a Honda once and it was a fantastic car. I never thought of the Nissan Almera too. How are they for reliability?

I take it you've had a bad experience then?

Hondas are one of the most reliable cars available, imo.

I thought it was the Accord Coupe (5th gen anyway) that was made in USA?

I'm inclined to think you aren't actually into your cars.

@ OP..I wouldn't know much about that particular version myself, but quoted mpg figures of 35+ is pretty good, and Hondas are renowned for reliability in general. Definitely a much more interesting and aesthetically pleasing car compared to a Yaris/Almera too

In the context of reliability, that's something you don't see often. You must be a little bitter about an experience? Can you share?

The 1.7 engine is a 1668cc belt cam SOHC VTEC, that was also used in the FR-V and Stream over here. It puts about 125PS and it not bad for what it does. In terms of reliability, it's there abouts with all the other petrol Honda engines (next to bullet proof). It's not pocket rocket, but it's perfectly functional.

Yes, the Coupe was built in American and really, was tuned in terms of suspension for the States. It gives an average handling drive and is moderate looking - rather than stunning. In the UK they brought the Coupe in but not the saloon from that Generation, so it looked more odd against the hatch-backs. Between it average performance, odd-looks, even dull-looks it wasn't a brilliant seller, so it was dropped pretty soon after being introduced in the UK.

Not a bad car, but nothing special either.
