Peak times are Monday (most of the day), then around 9ish... lunch time and between 4.30 and 7. At least they're the times I tend to avoid.

The gym is okay, I wish there was more space. Weights area can get cramped to to the point of danger sometimes. You can get what you need done though, whether that's cardio, machines, free weights or powerlifting.

It'll be scarily busy at the start of term. Should ease off a bit.

The rugby team train Mon, Wed and Fri 8-10am I think.

10am-12noon and 2-4pm would be quiet enough times or 8-10pm.

Is there a swimming pool? Is it free for students?

Yep there's a swimming pool. Your membership is part of your registration fee.

The hardest thing for me is leaving my house just to go to the gym. :)

I was in a different college which had a gym and always went to the gym as i was already in the building for college :)

Well when you get the letter telling you how much to pay for registration, you see that €77 of it is a "students sports centre charge"..

    But besides that, no.

Like a lot of things it requires an ability for delayed gratification (which can be learned). "After this I'm going to feel and look great". Similar to success in exams. In college there's nobody pushing you but you. There are also those who overextend themselves, joining too many societies, sports clubs, committees, gym, study, computer games, extra-curricular classes etc. and end up hardly involved with any of them. There are very few people who are able for this, and those people neither sleep nor have a life. Sure try for balance but be choosy, try things out on a temporary basis before committing. Don't let your friends, your family or your study fall by the wayside.

I use the gym regularly about 8 months out of the year. It can be done. It's a strong interest and I'm often trying out new things there. Then I've about 2 or 3 other hobbies I tend to rotate between as primary focus.

How busy is it in the early evening? Might be a good way to relax after lectures. Would probably do me some good, too.

It varies, sometimes it's not too bad at all and it's a great way to chill out- though it'll probably be absolutely jammed the first few weeks.

Does anyone have a rough idea of the opening hours for the gym, can't find it anywhere.

I reckon it'll be jammers for the first few weeks and then die down a bit then and in January when everybody is sorting their life out.
