BMW Service Pack - Good Value or not?

OK have a 2009 520D which is now due its first service at 25K kms. Just off the phone with Joe Duffy (its the nearest to me) and was qouted in the region of €300 for oil and filters (oil and micro). However the nice lady offered a "promotion" Service pack to include all services until the car is 5 years old or has 100K kms for €400. Seems like good value to me. Anybody any experiences of this?

If it's €300 for one service, or €400 for the 3 or 4 services that will take you up to the 100,000km, then it's a bit of a no brainer really.

Thats exactly what the lady said, just wondering if there are any catches or if anyone had any negative experiences. Had toyed with the idea of going up north but at that price it would seem to be pointless.

My mother got Service Pack plus on her 320d when it was new in 2007. It cost €1000 for all servicing for 5yrs/100k kms, so your offer sounds very good. Check what's included, though. I'd also strongly advise extending the warranty before it expires.

Thanks Anan. I bought it in the UK in January when it was 9 months old so as I understand it I have 3 years warranty from March 2009 but I will have to bring it up north for any warranty work in the 3rd year.

Had the service pack on mine up to 100'000km.
Covered practically everything, would deffo recommend it. In fact, go for the plus as it covers brakes as well.

Sounds pretty good. I think you could get her down more though. My father got a free service pack for 3 years with a little haggling. They are very good.

    4 minor services on a V12 BMW for €700 - amazing!

I guess BMW hope / expect once you take them up on this offer you'll let them do all the other work as well, for the usual hefty rates :D

Probably would but don't really have €1400 knocking around at the moment!

I wonder if joe duffy will still be around in the next few to do all the services you pay for

I think you can get the services done at any BMW workshop. As I understand it you are buying the pack from BMW Ireland and not Joe Duffy.

Doesn't matter, any BMW dealer will do it. Even if the service pack is purchased new with the car in the UK, and you buy that car and bring it over here, they'll honour it. Strange, but true.

its because BMW Ireland is basically a department of BMW UK.

deffo good deal, my dad has it on his 520d too.

No you won't. Can be done here

Do you know that for a fact because according to the literature I got when I bought the car the warrantly is 2 years Europewide but the car must be returned to the UK for any warranty work in the 3rd year. If its the case that the 3 year warranty stands here then great.

Sounds like a good package. Are these service packs available to buy on a used BMW outside the original BMW warranty and purchased outside the BMW dealer network?

In other words if I was to buy a 3 year old 5 Series from a non BMW dealer could I avail of the offer from a BMW dealer?

I don't think so not but I can't be 100%. What the lady at Joe Duffy told me that the option was available upto the time the car was due its first service and that the service was not overdue.

The service pack is great value but that €300 for the oil service is a bit rich.
Conlons in Kildare will do it for €145.

Hi veetwim, I think it's €1,400 for the service pack, not €400, think you missed the 1? :) Or maybe I read it wrong. At €1,400 for five years it sounds like good value, but for the remaining 75,000 Kms - well I'd work the sums. Worth thinking about.

My car is on its third year and I've had in for trivial warranty work no problems.

Its €400 for the Service Inclusive, €1,395 for the Service Inclusive Plus which includes Brake Pad and Disk replacement.

Yeah they said that the basic service would be €145 also but this would not include the replacement of the Micro-filter which they said would bring the total upto around €280.

Sounded alot to me also unless they are hard to get at or something. Either way I'll probably get a minimum of 3 services for €400 so all in all it seems to be a good deal.

The microfilter is about €50 and is the easiest part to replace. With labour included, Frank Keane were asking €66 to replace it in my E92. I can't imagine it any more expensive for the 5 series. They must have been offering you a full air conditioning service which would be a bit unnecessary.
