Lads does this tractor look like serious value, especially when you think of the money a 390 can make. Probably land this in the ROI for €19k vat paid.
    I think it's 100hp.

I think that's more than 100hp. If its genuine, its a good deal. But be wary - look at the seat covering - its gone very shabby for only 4500 hours. A lot of tractors brought in here from the uk in the last few years have been clocked to make them appealable. You will need to have someone who knows what they're doing when you go to look at it and check it out properly.

they are nearer the 110hp i think and we looked into one a while back but nothing came of it but when we asked around anyone who had one said they were pretty much trouble free bar a case mechanic we asked about them mind you hed only say case are a decent tractor . if you do go to have a look at it just look for play in levers and patches worn on tops of levers, pedals, steering wheel arm rest on the seat and the mat on the floor around the trottle etc. Also id look at the wheels they look like the originals going by the wear and going by the look of them they probably only have the 4500 hrs done. whenever your going to look at a machine bring a mechanic who knows their stuff and you know is reliable
but like they say around here whenever someone brings one in and brags about the hours "when have you heard of a high houred english tractor"

I am looking at upgrading to a 4x4 myself
and am sourcing a john deere 6400
    98 clear for approx 12k
about 6000hrs and few things like mirror, seat and superficial stuff really wrong with it.
wondering is it worth the punt as well.

Ideally would like a MF like the one your looking at
but way out of my price range.
    cheers

The MF 4270 is 110 Hp, years of manufacture are 1997 to 2001.
    from ;
    http://www.tractordata.com/farm-tractors/000/8/8/888-massey-ferguson-4270.html

Wondering, what's people opinion on worn tyres. If I see badly worn tyres on a newish tractor, I'm thinking done a lot of heavy road work, like construction etc, so probably got a bit of abuse. If I see newish tyres that dont match the hours, I'm thinking they're the second set so likewise a lot of abuse.

I have 1200 hours on my tractor in almost 2 years. The tyres are as good on it as the day it came into the yard. It does very little road work, and never pulls anything bigger than the slurry tanker on the road - all the land is close to the sheds anyway. Tyres on it should do several thousand hours before they need replacing.
Loaders are a lot harder on front tyres - you'll see the high points on tyres wearing down if a loader is fitted.

A lot of bigger tractors that are for sale at the moment have a background in construction - pulling dump trailers and low loaders etc. on the road which caused excessive tyre wear - A lot of tractors weren't under pressure at this, so it doesn't exactly mean that if a newish tractor has worn tyres that she has the sh!te driven out of it. Some farm contractor tractors would stick out like a sore thumb in a sales yard for haven being abused, unserviced and over worked - they may have good tyres, but may not necessarily be a good buy.

little mf at home has 4000 hrs and still on the original back tires.
its probally on its 3th set of front tires though, the loader work chews them up quickly

thats a vey cheap tractor for contracting work. they are very reliable and are a really comfortable tractor to work in all day . it would make more sense to buy something like that than a 60000euro+ john deere.
