Sorry if this has been brought up before.

I just got an online Quote for Tesco Car insurance for 772e for a 1993 1275cc Mini Mayfair. I'm 19 and have had a full licence for 2yrs so all other quotes i've been getting have been in or around 2k.

Just wondering has anybody dealt with Tesco for car insurance and if so what are they like? Will i get a similar quote if i call them and if so is it too good to be true?

    Any info is appreciated!

Depends on the policy you're getting. Their new pricing structure of 'Value', 'Standard' and 'Finest', like the rest of the Tesco product range, is a bit of a gimmick. If the 772 is for comprehensive cover (I think that comes in under "STandard") then its probably not too bad.

Tesco car insurance is underwritten by RSA. They've been around for years and in my experience are pretty good to deal with if you ever need to make a claim.

I had Tesco insurance when I went out on my own insurance vs the garage policies I'd had all along. No complaints, cheap premium and the cover was excellent. And it was underwritten by a good company too.

Ask over on miniclub.ie what other drivers your age are doing for insurance. Someone is bound to have a good solution to save money!

They may require 2 years NCB.

Is this the 'Quick Quote' or the actual proper, full quote?

Quick one gives great quotes but they're useless.

I found that when you add on benefits that are standard on other policies such as NCB protection, etc Tesco Insurance end up the same price or more expensive. Their qoutes are a bit like Ryan Air prices imo.

    Hi there,

If you can prove you've been a named driver for 2 years, you shoudl be ok.

Value, Standard and Finest are all available in Third Party Fire and Theft or Comperehensive - you may that selection as you quote.

And there are no further add-ons with Tesco Car Insurance. All options are included under the different cover type Value, Standard or Finest. You can see the contents of each here:

    Hope that helps!

hmm, they'll quote me on a 1991 MX5, but not a Eunos Roadster? No love for the JDM imports then...
