Bringing 2 drivers on a round?

I’m thinking of changing drivers from a 10.5 regular to a 9.5 stiff. I’ve received a loan of a 9.5 but have not had much of an opportunity to practice with it as of yet.
This is more than likely a silly question – but is there any ruling against carrying two drivers in the bag for my round?
I’m down to play in a comp at the weekend and would like to make the most of the round by trying the 9.5 on certain holes.
(I’ll obviously take out a different club to make room for it).
    Is this okay?

Other question is in relation to the regular vs. stiff shaft decision.
Playing off 16 but heading down in the right direction. Had lessons so my swing is relatively sound.
I’ve got a pretty big drive and would strike the ball fairly hard and fast off the tee, with this improving steadily over the past few weeks.
As result, two separate playing partners both said that the regular shaft was actually causing me more harm than good (too much height / slice at times).
Could this be the case – and would the move to the stiff shaft be a good choice?

    Thanks

can carry as many drivers as you like once you keep within the 14 clubs.

Phil did it once I think

A hard one to figure out but your best bet is to try one out. Would want swing speed of 100mph plus on average to be suited to a stiff shaft. I got fitted recently and was advised to stick with regular and am pretty happy with the results. i tried a good
If you dont swing so hard you might stop sliceing the ball as well. Its more about tempo and timeing than swinging hard and fast.

Is there such a thing as a stiff shaft? There's no universal spec.

Better to go to a good pro who will advise and let you try different lofts and shafts.

Don't let your playing partners tell you what to get.

big phil brought his out to suit a specific course if i rem correctly..
    fade and a draw

sounds a bit nuts switching between drivers in a round as i would have thought you coulda just tested it in the range.

    +1, correct on all fronts.
There's no industry standard for stiff, regular etc. One company's regular could easily equivalent to another company's stiff. Indeed different "stiff" shafts from the same manufacturer can play very differently to each other (eg Grafalloy Prolite, Blue, Red etc).

Custom fitting is a very worthwhile investment IMO, the best driver is the one you hit well, not the one that is the highest profile from the biggest manufacturer or the one your mate hits well. Plus its actually good craic getting fitted :) !!

He sure did. An interviwer at the time asked tiger if he would consider following suit. Given the feelings between the two, tiger tried to dismiss the very thought of carrying 2 drivers by saying that he had done it once, having broke his driver in two halves...very smart tiger..and by the way how's the missus?:D;)

Back to the matter in hand...no prob as long as you only have the 14 clubs in the bag...other posters very right about the shaft differences. guy in shop told me that sometimes a stiff shaft is not one at all due to variance.

hope this helps. best of luck.

basically to summarise if i may, he who doesn't invest in custom made clubs is completely wasting his time and may as well wander around the course with a broom stick (feel free to sellotape on optional club head to top of said broom stick, depending on your level of skill, dedication, etc)

In my experience too soft a shaft will promote a hook rather than a slice as the shaft will unload early and close the face.

+1. Saw some stills from a high speed camera in a mag awhile ago that showed the shaft bending forwards the target at the moment of impact. This adds dynamic loft to the face as well as closing it.

I had a stiff (very stiff) shaft once (err on my driver) and the tendency was a low cut to the right if I wasn't on form.

Had this arguement with a mate there recently,it don't matter which clubs you use just so long as it says something loud and brash like Nike or Wilson on the outside of the bag.

So true. Playing with my boss and some of his friends lately and they were nearly embarrassed to be walking around the course with me as their cheapest club would would easily have bought my entire bag.

They werent happy afterwards either after being soundly beaten.
