Used Familiar Car

living

Hi all!

My Nissan Micra is about to die and now it's time to look for something different. I am looking for a familiar car, like a Nisssan Almera, Ford Focus, Seat Cordoba...

Maybe you can help me and tell me what the best option is (knowing that the budget is around €5000)

I have seen Chevrolet Aveo and Lacceti with an amazing price...are they so bad?

Don't get the Chevy, they're awful.

The Ford Focus is a good car. You can get a Toyota Corolla as well.

Everybody is recommending the Focus . I prefer the Corolla but it's more expensive. It's so hard to be poor :mad:

If you haggle, you should be able to get it below 5k...

Corolla will hold its value slightly better ..

Both Corolla and Focus are really good reliable transport. My '99 TDDi Focus now has 320k miles or over 500k kms with only usual minor service stuff and brakes etc. The original clutch lasted 270k....!

Dont go for French or Italian.. They are cheaper to buy but it will be payback time with repairs/breakdowns.. Resale value is very poor as well

what does your english have to do with the price of sausages.
1) take out say 4750 and show it to the seller.
2) raise an eyebrow
3) if he doesn't give you the keys, put your money in your pocket and walk away

I did the same and got a car for half price!! The car was €3000

I had a cheque in my hand for €1400 and handed it to the seller and said nothing. He asked for a further €100 and I just said no..........I had a further €500 in cash in my pocket

The Chevrolets are cheap because they are rebadged Daewoos that are not up to the standards of the likes of the Focus, Golf, Astra, etc.

Maybe I am wrong but I always check the mileage. Is it really important?, I mean, more than 60000 miles, are not too many miles for a car?. I want something that, at least, lasts 5 years more without big problems (just service it every 10k miles and things like that)

Toyota Corollas and most Ford Focus are pretty reliable even above 150-200miles as long as they're serviced regularly.

You surely can't go wrong with the Corolla. They've got a reputation for never breaking down.

Just make sure the car has a full service history and has been serviced regularly throughout its life.
That's the most important thing to look for when buying a used car.

What you need to look for is a verifiable service history. A 20k mile car could be in worse condition mechanically than an identical one with 50k miles if it wasnt looked after. With higher mileage cars you do run the risk of wear and tear items needing replacing but there isn't much that can be done about that.

Often a slightly higher mileage car with a good history can be a good buy due to lower initial cost, especially if you want to run it for a long time.

I'd scratch the Almera off the list. Not very reliable and the interior is woeful, especially in the rear for the size of the car.

car is fine but I have had problems with that dealer in relation to warranty. get it in WRITING and signed in BLOOD, witnessed by a commissioner for oaths

also that car should cost you no more than 5K cash

Thanks but the car has to be in Dublin and I'd prefer to buy it from a dealer.

I wouldn't mind getting a mpv for a similar price. I have a baby and the 90% of the Micra is for her

They sure do look very neat. Though I don't know much about them. Don't think they're as realiable as the Corolla. Toyota's seem to hold their value really well which is why they're quite more expensive than the other cars.

Hi Again, just to say Thank you . Finally I have bought a Toyota Corolla 2004. 5500 euro , a little more expensive that I expected but it is in mint condition . Hopefully I will able to drive it next week
