It's the new coffee place beside CUH. I'm just wondering if anyone has tried it out?

I'll probably try it out this evening and I'll report back but just wondering if anyone has anything good/bad to say in the mean time?

I went up there the other night, it is a forecourt shop with some seats, coffee is €2.60 for a take away I thought it was a bit expensive for forecourt coffee, the best hand wash in cork is €15 a Renault Senic.
It is over priced for what it is.

The best handwash in Cork is €8 ;)

its €8 off peak from 19.00 to 23.00, good idea for a coffee place but it seems a little expenxive for what it is.
    :P

There was a huge queue for the carwash today anyway!

I think they're aiming more at the Starbucks-esque market than the '50 diesel at pump 9 and a coffee to go' crowd.

I nipped in this morning and it's not cheap, but I didn't think the prices were too out of the way either. There's a story about the owners in the wee Bishopstown newsletter thing if anyone has it. Fair play to them for making an effort.

Maybe its me but €2.60 for coffee is taking the mick

You would buy a jar of coffee and a litre of milk for that price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

You guys obviously never buy coffee in Starbucks/Butlers/Gloria Jeans then? 2.60 isn't the worst price for a coffee in a coffee shop.

Just to report, I went the other evening just happened to be meeting a friend and suggested we try it. Coffee was nice and I do agree it is aimed at the "Starbucks" crowd so the prices were reasonable enough.
I do however have one thing to report, it was about 5 to 7 when we went in and got the coffee and they mentioned the off peak car wash so I said I'd give it a go but the guy behind the counter said I'd have to wait the 3/4 minutes before I could start getting the car washed.
I understand sticking to the times etc.. but why tell me about it and and then tell me I have to wait. It just pi**ed me off and I know cutting off my nose to spite my face but I just told him to forget about it. I wouldn't mind but for the 10/15 minutes we were there the 3 guys in the car wash area were doing nothing anyway!!!
Thats the other thing I found it over staffed and it won't be around long if they are going to be doing that!!!

    Coffee 7/10
    Whole Experience 5/10

I understand sticking to the times etc.. but why tell me about it and and then tell me I have to wait.

Pretty simple, the lower price they charge is probably restricted on the till. The staff can't just select the lower price, or they'd give it to all their friends, instead, they have to wait for the till to get to 7 O'Clock, where it reverts to a second price level and allows staff to sell the lower priced car wash.

I used to service cash registers a long time ago, and that was one of the features most places with peak/off peak charging wanted to implement.

I understood this, I asked if they could start to wash the car and I'd give the €8 in and when it could go through to just do it, and they refused. I was ok with that it was just the manner which they refused I wasn't happy with it!!

They have certain sales procedures to follow. It's a brand new shop, with brand new staff. Things have to be done a certain way so training can be consistent, and clear. As far as I can see :

    1) You wanted the car washed on the off peak rate before 7. They told you to wait until 7, then they'd do it as that was the off peak time. You could have had it washed immediately, for the higher price if you wanted.
    2) You wanted the car washed on the off peak rate before 7 again, but you'd pay when the off peak time arrived.

Honestly? I'm tending to side with them. Maybe they could have managed your expectations a little better, maybe a little more empathy training would work well in managing customer disappointment. But from a business perspective if they do one wash a little early to avoid a conflict with customers, the next one will be earlier, and the one after that when someone complains a little earlier again.

When you say 'the manner in which you were refused', were they rude? Or just firm when sticking to their pricing/peak/offpeak structure?

It'd be like going into McDonalds, asking for breakfast at 10:31 when it finishes serving at 10:30. Would be well and good, until the guy coming in at 10:35 sees the guy getting breakfast at 10:31, and the guy at 10:42 sees it and wants it too.

Hardly worth getting worked up over if it is as you said just a few minutes before 7. I'd just get an extra muffin and enjoy the nomnoms while waiting. :D

PaintDoctor, I agree with you, they are just staff and are told what to do.

I was just annoyed that the guy behind the counter told me if I wanted the car washed it was €8. I said ok, sounds alright and then he just said no I'd have to wait 5 mins...My point was he just shouldn't have told me that the car wash was €8 and then tell me I'd have to wait. He should have told me the car wash was €11 or whatever but that from 7 onwards they'd be running an off peak wash for €8. I would have been alright with that...

I have a complaint about the car wash too. I've been there twice for coffee and they keep trying to sell me a carwash, it's annoying. I know they wash cars, if I want a carwash I'll ask! I like the coffee.

Is it a handwash they do, do they use sponges or mitts does do ye know ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

My wife got her car washed there and in fairness it was one of the best washes she got

A brave time to open a business like this at a time when several other places are closing down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,673 ✭✭✭bladebrew

    hey all,
i went in here to get the car washed today, they did a brilliant job in fairness to them, i think they must have dropped their prices since this thread started, a car is €9.50, a van is €14, jeep i think is €11
they spray the tyres/wheels first, then a powerwash, then foam all over, then rinse off again with a powerwasher, then spray on some sort of tyre shine,
i didnt try the coffee but i got a remarkbly expensive bottle of minerals:)

Not enough places for young people to go to so if this was another outlet for young people, then it would be a great idea.

A latte and a bounty while having the car washed, lovely, they Are doing a decent job of the car ahead, fingers crossed....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,426 ✭✭✭Roar

gotten the car washed a few times there, they do an excellent job. Have never been concerned about the price of the coffee (it's a cafe imo), and the coffee itself is decent.

They did a great job, spent a good while getting baked on brake dust off the wheels (literally almost black with 6 weeks of the crap cooked on) which are awkward to clean anyway, do a very decent job, different buckets and sponges for wheels and body work, sponge s are all new and fresh looking too, highly recommended, coffee was lovely too, RJ is happy.

The head valetor there Tom worked with me for 7 years in my last 2 jobs. He's sh*t hot at what he does, seriously, the man's a legend at sorting out bad cars.

Just heard the place went to the wall this morning, 18 staff left go. Shame I quite liked the place and it was always busy when I was in there. Great car wash and coffee.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

Bit early to be speculating that 'they went to the wall'. It could be something as simple as the lease was up. They have closed according to their FB page, there'll no doubt be more news as the days go on, but blaming financials when there's no evidence seems a bit daft.

Ya fair enough. Its just in the current climate you don't expect much else. Surely if the lease was up there would have been no problem notifying staff instead of just meeting them on the way in as the radio reported.

Its never been quiet in there from what Ive seen and the MRS was a fairly regular customer. Without contradicting myself I would be surprised if it was financial though judging by the traffic there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

I was a regular customer too. Wilton and Cork will be the poorer for it's loss, but speculation needs to be kept to a minimum if there's to be any hope of reviving the business.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,744 ✭✭✭deRanged

let's keep speculation to a minumum please, businesses have enough troubles these days

i am a bit shocked by this, i was regular enough in there, always was busy enough in there with a queue for the carwash

where to now to get the car washed well?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,660 ✭✭✭Blitzkrieger

:( Never got to try the place. Went in once but there was two cars in the queue so I couldn't be arsed waiting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,683 ✭✭✭✭Owen

That was the beauty of the place, even with 5-7 cars in front of you you weren't waiting long. They'd 3-4 staff washing each section of the car like an assembly line. Even on the busiest day, I'd go in, have a large coffee and by the time my coffee was done the car would be too.

Got my car washed yesterday in another place. Wheels weren't clean, glass that I paid extra to be done wasn't clean, and to my horror when I collected mine, I saw them cleaning the side of a 2011 Audi with a soft sweeping brush covered in suds. Never again.

Name and shame so we don't all make that mistake ;)

Are both the coffee shop AND the car wash closed at the moment?
    Pity, handy spot.

    Real shame it's closed :(
Was planning on going up there to get the car cleaned this week.
Was by far the best car wash I have ever used and I hope they get up and running again.

One of the staff was on the 96fm (I know, poor taste in radio) this morning saying they (the staff) would like to get it going again but that, according to him, some of the equipment and stock had already been removed so it's not as simple as just taking it over.

The whole thing is closed and they have barriers up to prevent anyone driving on to the site.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,673 ✭✭✭bladebrew

    cant believe its all gone:(

i was only in there last friday getting the car washed, seems odd it just basically closed down overnight, it was always busy whenever i was there,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,543 ✭✭✭tinner777

    David Kelly
Unfortunate news: Numerous offers have been made to the directors of Mojoe's Coffee House which would see staff jobs reinstated and we could continue to provide excellent service to the people of Cork. All such offers have been declined to date. This is especially frustrating when one considers the times in which we live.

Never went there myself but it always looked jointed when I passed surprised it is closed down

It's after opening again. Was in there for a filled roll and tea. Quite nice, too. Didn't see any cars being washed, though.
