Last night, a few boardsies mentioned that they had Turtle Beach headsets, different models/prices.

    Anyone got recommendations?

Raven mentioned ones with surround sound - but they were about 200e?!

I went and bought the wireless xbox headset - plenty of money wasted

    Whatcha think?

(P.S. Did anyone get and use the ones that came with the MW2 pack - they were supposed to be similar to the army style ones - they were in contact with the throat or summit)

yeah id go with turtle beaches i got a set for 60 in game and ive never had a problem with them . im not sure what he means by surround sound because when i play it seems like i have surround sound as well . the 200 euro ones do come with some nifty wireless kits but the one i went for is wired which siuts me to the ground because i dont want charger kits all over my house too many of them as it is . works on xbox ps3 and pc according to the box

Cheers for that - what's the name of the set you have?

Re: 200e set - Raven will be able to explain it better, but apparently there are three separate mini-speakers in the set which give surround sound? But 200e for me is a bit steep - I enjoy gaming but still...

Cossax I think mentioned the "21s"?

ill have a gander when i get home and let you know there bargain for the price and they genuinely do help you out even with ninja pro ive heard people reloading or landing from a jump and caught them sneaking up on me . the mike is way more sensative which was an issue with my old mike . i couldnt talk load enough at night without waking my parents but you couldnt hear me speaking so it was a waste of money after 11 oclock . plus you play the sound not through the tv so there pretty quite for other people in the house

I got the px21's which I like a lot. Takes a bit of getting used to though, I spent the first few games ****ting myself hearing so many enemy footsteps

Same here. Those X11's have been a godsend for 360 gaming ever since I got them, only €60, and none of this messing around with wireless stuff and batteries. Just plugged into the audio cables and a USB port :)

I've the x31's. Got them in game for 110 quid. Pretty steep price i know but from what i gather the price has dropped a few quid since.

I wouldn't go back to playing without them. The detail and quality of sound is amazing. Footsteps all over the place. Quite fun if you're into S&D.

10/10 from me. Only fallback is batteries. Eats through them if you're a big gamer.

Get them if you enjoy gaming you won't look back.

    that's them alright.

I have the x31s, which cost €100. As far as I know, they are the exact same as the x21s but with less wires.

There are several pros to the x31s, but I think I will list the cons for you.
    • Batteries. The wireless headset means that there is no way for it receiving power from your xbox. This means that you will have to buy batteries. I was running through a pack a day until I bought some rechargeables.
    • Mic 1. Even though the headset is "wireless", it really is not if you want to talk to your team mates. There is a cable that you connect from your TBs to your controller. The wire is great, but can be a nuisance at times. You cannot really hear your team mates either without it.
    • Mic 2. It is very sensitive. Whenever my brother is in the room, I have to move a certain way so that the mic is not in sight of him as when he talks it can be picked up by my mic. Some times the 'now chatting' icon comes up randomly the past few days, that is driving me mad about why.
    • USB. You will lose a USB port to power the TBs transmitter.

I would also like to point out that while I can hear people in MW2 with ninja walking around, I don't think I have ever heard a guy in Halo3 or World at War.

Other than the mic things (when i have some more money after my pc I will make them fully wireless :D ) I love the headset. I would really recommend it. Personally, though I would really like to try the x41s, I don't know if I could part with the money.

So Raven - would you think the extra 25e is worth it for the 31s?

    You've a couple of factors.

    Wired v Wireless
The wired ones have about 16foot of cable, so can be a bit messy. If you're in the TV room, your missus mightn't like them always trailing around the floor, but if you're in a dedicated room, then this isn't a problem. But the wireless ones are going to chew through batteries, so have some rechargables to hand.

    Stereo v Surround Sound.
Woody did a test of headphones, and said that you get a huge extra benefit from having surround sound headphones over surround sound speakers. He reckoned that you get about 80% of that benefit from having Stereo headphones. But to get that extra 20% of benefit, you're going to pay about 3-4 times the price.

I've got a pair of Turtlebeach X1's which I got for under €60. They've been replaced with the X11's I think, and you can see them here. I think they're very good, but I've never tried the full surround headphones.

Here's the video where Woody does his test.

well i've only got the regular set up speaker-wise for the xbox so the headphones will def be an improvement on that :o

Razor are bringing out a set of headphones that have the 5.1 in them.
It's not out yet and does not have a mic on it, but it is $109
