Animalhuger - you'll find that, since the last budget, recruitment into the Reserve has been approved.

Kevin - have a look at these threads

    as well as

The general route to enlistment is to turn up on a training night at your chosen unit. They will take your details and process them. You should begin a pre-recruitment syllabus while waiting for your security clearance to come back. You will also undergo a medical examination. When these are completed you will be attested (sworn in) and subsequently receive a service number and uniform. The whole process takes about 2 months, if not longer.

Once sworn in you begin your recruit syllabus and attend a 2 week full time training camp in the summer in order to be upgraded to Private 2*. The next September you begin your 2-3* training and are usually upgraded to Private 3* after your second summer camp. After this it is Corps specific training.

    OP

drop into your local unit, If you are near either mckee or cathal brugha barracks you have the choice between infantry, artillery, transport, cavaly and engineering. Security clearence can take quite a while I know lads who were waiting a year it is rare to get security clearence back in two months.

when you are sworn in and recieve a uniform and begin the basic recruit syllabus. on completion of a two week camp you will then pass out as a two star once you hae attained two star level you will start corps specific training. Once you have completed your corps specific training you will pass out as a 3 star and continue to refresh your training throught your time in the RDF.

    Hi guys,

Been thinking about the reserves for a few months and now that whole CAO malarkey is over its time to get a move on.

I'm right down the road from Cathal Brugha so thats handy, but from reading those other threads it seems there are units located in different areas(eg swords). Are there any around D14? Is there a list of Units for the Eastern Brigade?

If I were to register now how long realistically will it be until I'm attested?

Also, what kind of specific training do you do? I'm not interested in a millitary career but I've always had an interest in the millitary though I'm not in it just to use a Steyr like some other posters mentioned. I'm interested as a life experience and I think the discipline and exercise would do me good.

And just randomly out of interest are we issued with just BDUs or full LBE as well?

    Thanks,
    Lethal.

EDIT: Please excuse the excessive "I'm"s, I sound really narcissistic :p
