Getting Port Scanned

I am constantly getting messages from bullguard about port scans, I always manually block remote host but more keep coming back I've even complained to some of the sites that ip addresses. If I am being port scanned can this mean I have a virus, even though bullguard came up clean last 2 scans with 1 in safe mode. Thanks!

Getting port-scanned has nothing to do with having a virus. It doesn't mean that you DON'T have a virus - you might, but it just has nothing to do with it.

If you ever check the firewall logs on any PC you'll see thousands of port-scans being done. That's why you have a firewall - to block these scans. Port scans are just looking for open ports, or even closed ports. That's why a firewall will usually make you "invisible" - you're better off to be hidden so the bots don't even know you're there.

Unless you're the target of someone who knows your IP address, these are just bots scanning IP ranges looking for ports to exploit. If your firewall is doing it's job you've nothing to worry about (I'm guessing you're not running a webserver from your PC - if you are, you need to take extra precautions).

You can check how you appear to the web here: http://www.grc.com/default.htm. Go to "Shields Up" under services. This will scan all your ports and tell you if any are visible.

Actually it may have something to do with it.

If there is something (i.e. virus/malware) sending out traffic from the PC then it follows that there will be traffic coming back and not necessarily on related ports.

If the OP is suddenly getting a lot of these reports then there would be no harm digging deeper.

I'm assuming that Bullguard isn't warning about outgoing connections. Egress filtering is something ignored by most firewalls.
