Smart Playlist Live Updating on device without Sync

I have searched on Google but cannot find a definitive answer to this problem.

I have created a Smart Playlist on my iPod to play songs that have been played less than 2 times on my iPod. I had assumed that when the song has been played twice in the list it would then disappear of the list on the iPod (without having to plug it into the computer). This doesn't happen, until I plug the iPod into my computer.

Does anyone know if there is a workaround for this? I have tried adding "Playlist is Music" as one of the criteria of the Smart Playlist and also "Media Kind is Music", but neither work. Can anyone help? Thanks
