What fittings do I need?!

    Hi all,

I need some fittings, but dont know what to ask for. I went to one of the larger and well known trade plumbing places on the north side of the Dublin and asked them and they said it couldn't be done......I dont belive them!

So, maybe someone can help me to list the specific parts that I need! Basically, here is what I want to do....

I have low water pressure in my outside tap, so I have a plastic water container that I fill with water when I am using my pressure washer. However, its a pain in the ass to have to keep running back and switching off the tap when it starts to overflow. Its also a pain when the hose keeps falling out etc!!!

So basically, what I want to do is two fold:

    1) Put a ballcock into the tank and have a connection on the end that my hozelock connector from my tap will click into. So if I can get a standard 1/2" ballcock and fit that to the tank, but what fittings to I need in order to go from the 1/2" threaded fitting that will be sticking out of the tank so that I can screw a male hozelock onto the end of the threaded section of the ballcock!

    2) I want to have a valve at the bottom of the tank (eg a tap) that also has a male hoze lock on the other end. So, basically, I think I need a standard tank fitting, but then what connections do I need in order to go from the tank fitting to put on a valve and then on to the other side of the valve, a thread that will allow me to add another hozelock male fitting so that I can snap my hoze on etc!

    Let me know your thoughts!
    Thanks,
    Jab

For the bottom you will need either a 1/2 or 3/4 inch 350. then a short bit of pipe and a lever valve.

For the top , ballcock, short bit of 1/2 copper, sweat a short bit of garden hose over it, secure with jubilee clip. Attach hose connection and away you go.

    Hi,

Thanks a mill for getting back to me. Do you know what type of fitting I would need to go from both the 1/2" tank connector and the ballcock 1/2" to the connector below?....I presume there must be a brass fitting that would have this thread?

    Cheers,

OP did you actually read and understand what was written above or did you Ready Fire Aim:D?

From the 1/2" copper fitted to both the b/c and the bottom outlet
    ...

The fitting you show goes onto a brass 'outside' tap
The fitting u show y are available in brass and last longer but have only seen the brass ones in Europe

How do u connect hose to tap now?

What you do at the bottom is run a pce of copper from the tankconnector then you get a nut and ring and a 311 and connect it to the copper and put a striagt through tap on. The head of the tap is screwed off and the above fitting is screwed on.... I cannot think of the code for the tap but guys its the one with the nipple like on an outside tap and a screwed pce on the other required to go into a 311.

actually i just thought of an easier way.

Just bring a pce of copper out on the 350 attach a 311 and attach the pce above( your yellow pce) if you want a tap to controm it just stick a ball valve half way down the copper pipe...

    Job is oxo...

you can modify this plan sligtly for next year when we are charged for water. Sink a tank in the ground and have the gutters run into it. Then using a sump pump just pump the water out to a hose pipe to water gardens was cars etc. The advantage to this is the sump pump contains a flow switch so will only give whats asked for.

Lidl do a little pump with flow switch for 30 euro, work brilliantly and are great value
