I assume you are a student if €250 is the membership they are charging (and they have done away with their joining fees). Where are you going to college, maybe a club near there would be handier? Both clubs have lots of members, which has the upside of providing lots of opportunities to play different people (in theory), but the downside of limiting the time you can spend on court, especially for non club organised tennis. The 18 route would also leave you near LCC (Rathmines), Ashbrook (Rathgar) and Stratford (Rathmines) which are medium-small clubs that may offer more opportunities to play matches you organise yourself rather than having to sign up for events to play. All should cater for Class 4-5, but it may take you longer to get noticed and work your way up in Templeogue/Mt P.

might be what you meant but thats not what you wrote!
bective, claremont -railway union, lansdowne might all be options that could be suitable.

Court usage in the big clubs can be a major issue. Although, even in the smaller clubs there can be queues on certain nights of the week. A lot would also depend on what you are looking for in a club. LCC would have much better facilities than either Stratford or Ashbrook, and would be not too far behind Mt. P. I'm not sure what facilities Templeogue have, I've never paid that much attention, but I assume they are very good. LCC and Ashbrook would be a fair bit cheaper than the other two clubs on a normal membership basis (i.e. when you are no longer a student) LCC's student membership is €200 for comparison, and their full membership would normally be €300 at current rates, and Asbrook is €280, but I don't think they have a student rate. If you were a Premier/Class 1 player then Templeogue/Mt. P would be the only realistic options out of the group, but for Class 4/5, they all should be well able to cater to your standard for social and competitive play, although the bigger clubs, by their very nature, will require much more effort to find your level. When you're dealing with over 1000 members it is very easy to get lost in the crowd, but when there's only 100-300 members you can get yourself noticed on an average club night! Also, if you are planning on staying in the club after you finish college, the regular membership fee could become important, in a year or two you won't qualify as a student any more! Finally, check their membership years, some clubs have fixed membership years, and may or may not pro-rata it when you join during the year, other clubs start their year from whenever you join so you don't have to worry about it.
