Takes the same amount of time to paint whether it's an inch scratch, or a foot unfortunately.

To do the job properly, it's not really possible to do it with spray cans. But if you really want to do it, you'd need :

    120 grade sandpaper
    400 grade sandpaper
800 grade wet & dry sandpaper
2000 grade wet & dry sandpaper
Primer which is elastomising (Stretches with plastic) and filling.
Base coat mixed to match your car*
    Lacquer
    Oodles of masking tape/plastic sheeting
    Anti-sil degreaser
    Scotchpad
Somewhere dry and relatively dust free to leave it dry.

So on materials alone there, you're not far off 50 quid. If you still want to know how to do it, I'll gladly post a written how to. I'm working on a how-to with photos I've promised the forum but it's getting the time to do something very slowly and take photos of each step that's making it take so long.

*Not just mixed to your colour codes, some colour codes have shade variants, Toyota's 1C0 Platinum (Goldish colour) which you see on most Avensis' has nearly a dozen shades for the same colour code.

Are there any good Youtube videos that show how to "give it a go?".

It'll have to be painted anyway, maybe the OP can try it themselves and see how it goes.

Honestly, I wouldn't recommend it. The amount of cars driving around which have been done at home is increasing, and you can spot the repairs a mile away. I did an RX8 last weekend, and it caused me more work to remove the have a go spray job and redo it then it would have been to repair the original defect.

Had a look on youtube for a tutorial using aerosols, but most involve spray guns.

Phone around a few places, get a few quotes. You might be pleasantly surprised, with the recession, prices have fallen!

Ye please do a write up, I'd be interested in it anyways. I like doing small DIY body repairs so this would be handy. I'm generally good at car mechanicals BUT spray painting I am not so good at:(

bumpers respray at the profesional garages are priced around 150-200e and u got some colour match warranty, which u wont get spraying yourself.... so maybe bring it to any bodyshop and have it done with confidient and no hassle ?

Not in my experience. Bumpers are generally 350/400 in established bodyshops
