3 Mobile Broadband - Is it worth upgrading modem?

    I have one of the original e220 modems. Has anyone had experience of "upgrading" for a newer modem -- was there an improvement in speed for you if you did?

    Waste of time. It's just an excuse for Three to lock you into a 12 or 18 month contract.

    Good modem, google upgrading and unlocking it. You can upgrade it to 7.2Mbps if you really want to.

    I usually max out at under 700Kb at home so 7.2Mbps is too optimistic :)

    If there was any improvement in upgrading I would (I'll probably still be with 3 in a year unless something better comes along) but if there's no difference then there's no point - and that's how it looks!

    Unless your modem is giving you problems, or you're able to max out the speed of the modem (3.6Mbps was standard on the E220, but it's capable of 7.2Mbps with a firmware upgrade), then there's no real point in upgrading.

    The E220 is capable of 320kbps upload, where as some other modems can do 1Mbps, or maybe more. I would say that this is largely pointless, and also unlikely that you'd even achieve it. But if you really wanted higher upload speed, and could avail of it, then a newer modem could be useful.
