Wilton Test Centre-Togher route-question on roundabouts

    Hi all,
I have a question about the roundabout at Centra in Togher. Say I am going down the Togher road (from the test centre) and I am going straight through, I don't indicate. My friend thinks I should indicate left before the exit I am taking, but then it looks like I am indicating for Centra, which I think is a misleading signal. So who is right? I keep telling her that Centra is not an exit, it's just a shop!

Also, the junction at the Barrs club- is that an uncontrolled junction or a roundabout? At the moment the lights are flashing. I was going straight through from Togher church and I slowed down, looked into the Barrs (a car came out, so I stopped) and looked to my right (car waiting, right indicator on), so I went. My friend thinks I should have waited for the car to my right to go, but he wasn't able to go.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Granted I do not know the roundabout in question but if you are going straight through and it's the 2nd exit you should signal left just after you pass the 1st exit. Make sure you look in your left mirror just before you signal and again just after you exit the roundabout and cancel your indicator.

This sounds as though it's a roundabout with signals and the signals are only used at busy periods. Off-peak the amber will flash. Treat it as a roundabout I'd say. Are there marking on the road or kerbs denoting a roundabout?

First of all you should always be indicating left before exiting a roundabout so the question really is what signal you should give as you enter the roundabout and when do you turn on the left signal.

For this specific roundabout you should treat the entrance to Centra as a valid exit (and entrance) off and on the roundabout. So, coming from the test center and continuing on Togher Road you will be taking the 2nd exit off this roundabout. Therefore your signals should be - no signal as you enter the roundabout and then signal left as you pass the Centra entrance and then exit off the roundabout. It is a small roundabout so the time from when you enter to when you turn on the left signal is short but the main point is you should not have the left signal on before you enter the roundabout as this would mean you should be turning into Centra.

This is a disaster of a junction!

It has got a bit of everything going on in it :D It was originally a roundabout but then was redone as a traffic light controlled junction and now for several months the traffic lights have been switched off (flashing amber on one approach/flashing red on the other) and they have also put up 'Yield' signs on the traffic light poles.

In terms of how to deal with it you should treat it pretty much like a roundabout and Yield to traffic on your right, however if you are going straight ahead you do not need to signal (i.e. this is different from the roundabout rules). As you come from test center and intend continuing straight then slow down on approach, into 2nd gear and keep watch for the oncoming traffic and traffic on your right. You should be yielding to the traffic on the right provided they are able to emerge (i.e there is no oncoming traffic for you, traffic on their right) but if they are blocked then you can continue straight ahead with caution. Hope that makes sense!

Hiya, I live in eagle valley so I know this area well. Whilst I have not done my test or taken my run up lessons again this time yet I do drive those roads everyday.

In my experience, as the exit you are on and the centra exit are so close, and the roundabout so small, signalling to leave the roundabout after the centra exit, you are already heading for togher church really. That is one deadly little roundabout because it is so small with 4 exits
As for that junction. I will be interested to see what I am officially told on that. When you are coming from lets say Togher garden station people seem to be coming from town at speed so that is the trickiest way on to it. I dont know why the lights are out and randomly flashing these last few weeks. Have to use best judgement!

There are no markings other than that of a regular 4 crossroads junction on it and signage

thanks so much for all your replies. I asked more people about Centra and they all think I should indicate after Centra.

I did the Barrs junction from Tramore road and Togher Church today. It seems that from the Barrs side and the Tramore road side, the lights flash red, which I would presume means, you must stop, then proceed with extreme caution. From Togher church, there are no lights on, does that mean you do not give right of way to the right?
I think the way you described it Driveskill, is the way I will approach it. Does that mean that coming from the opposite approach, Clashduv road, I give right of way to the Barrs?
