Hi all, Brand new here so please bare with me and move this if it is in the wrong place.
I have alot of questions but i will just start with these.
THE 1j limt: does this pretty much rule out sniping? I dont think you would get the range/accuracy to make this a realistic option. plesase correct me if I'm wrong. what is the max range of sniper rifels here to which they are accurate?
    Another question:
I have an AEG but i dont have the packaging, manual or anything that came with it. was a present a few years ago. trying to find out some stats on it but there is nothing to go on. i cant figure out how to upload pics here(think i'm still to new to have that option). It is the exact same as the G&G GR16 carb. but craper:(
    any help much appreciated

You need to take it to a Retailer or an Airsoft site any of those can test it with a Chronograph which will allow them to calculate the power output of your AEG
They may also be able to help your determine make/model
Can I ask where are you based, as it would allow us to recomend a place to go so that your AEG can be tested

Do not rule out sniping in airsoft just because of the 1J rule.
In airsoft, being a sniper is more than just having a powerful rifle, it is all about the mindset and skills of the person behind it. It is a lot harder and more challenging to be a good airsoft sniper than you might think.

Get your rifle checked and take yourself along to a site. You may find this thread useful especially if you are on the Northside but access is easy off the M1 as well. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056001872

Approach it with an enquiring mind and you may surprise yourself

hope to meet you on the field soon

To Upload a Picture, all you have to do is follow these steps.

1: Have a picture saved on your computer.

    2: Go to www.tinypic.com

3: Click the browse button (which is located to the Right of the File box on the page) this will let you look for the pic saved on your computer. Chose the picture you wish to upload and click ok.

4: Change the Resize option to Website/Email(320x240) by clicking on the little down arrow.(this is a good size for pictures.)

5: Click Upload. (you will get a pop-up box asking you to type two words, just type what ever you see in the box and click continue)

6: When the upload is finished click on your picture on the right hand side. Then clcik your picture again to get a pop-up of your pic.
You will see an option down the bottom of the picture now that says :
    View Raw Image

Click this and it will open a new page with your picture in it.

7: Copy the address that is in the address bar up the top.

8: Write up your post on boards and to add your picture just click on the little picture icon above the text box and paste the address you copied in there.

9: Click ok and you done :)

There are many way to upload pictures to boards.ie,this is just the way I do it, you may find a better way that suits you :)

This may sound long winded but for me to upload a pic takes about 1 minute :) you just have to get used to it :)

    Hope this helps,

ok, how are the same make and model guns different fps? I saw a JG bar 10 for sale here. I saw these earlier but when i watch reviews and reserched them it seemed to be 400+fps out of the box? do they get brought here by retailers and ristricted somehow?
Also, as i have not played yet i'm still unsure about the sniping. you would only have a range of like 100 feet? is this correct? I am not looking for a 500 meter range or anything i just feel if you let off 1 shot someone could charge you down very very quickly if they had a clue where it came from.
Another question is, what are the main/most popular game types. I understand sniping would't be an option in a cqb, right?

That's right. With an AEG it's usually by changing the spring for a less powerful one (if you're lucky), by drilling a hole in the nozzle or in the cylinder (if you're unlucky).

Yep, you'd have pretty much the same range as any other airsoft gun. The (small) advantage bolt-action sniper rifles can have in airsoft is that it's possible to tweak them to make them very quiet indeed. The idea then would be that you don't let your enemy have a clue where it came from. It's not easy and certainly not for everybody, but it's what a previous poster was talking about with there being a certain attitude and all that.

Depending on where you go, I'd say generally you'd be talking about fields or woodland. Sniping wouldn't be much use in CQB, no, unless there's particular areas where you can cover longer ranges and deny them to the opposition.

Sniping can be great fun as they are way quieter than an AEG..
For instance my M24 can't be heard from farther than 10 feet again which gives you a huge advantage if you like the stealthy approaches..

Another thing though is most sniper rifles need to be upgraded as regards better hop ups, tightbore or twist barrels to give them all extended range without having to increase the fps of them. Most of them are not great out of the box.
That said with my previous M24 with the upgrades easily outdistanced every AEG on the field with .3bbs even though it only fired at around 290-310fps (with 0.2g bb)
But let's say you buy a sniper rifle for €200..you can then spend another 200-400 getting it upto performance levels...it's a lot of money to put in especially if you decided afterwards that you actually don't like sniping.
Most people recommend to start off with an AEG...and the M16 barrels are the same length if not longer than some sniper rifles so you can try playing with single shot on it and decided after a few skirmishes then if you like the role or not.

    Lad, if you're M24 is firing 290-310 with .3's it's well over!

sorry..meant to say that it fires at 290-310 with 0.2g..but I use .3 for the accuracy..and even still it easily outranges AEGS..
All to do with the upgrades :)

    Aye, that'd make sense.

Thanks guys. good advice and thoughts. So if i am getting into the market for an entry level AEG, what price range should i be looking at? Most popular makes/models?

Tbh you couldnt go wrong with a dboys or jg, but theyre very scarce atm, or if you want to spend that little bit more then go for a g&g raider, hobby airsoft are after getting in some of the combo packs and they come with battery and charger so there perfect for starting off and there very reliable and have great performance out of the box :)
