Just listening to Joe Duffy there and I have to agree with all the calls for a national government to be honest. We need to appoint business people to certain ministeries to introduce a dynamic entrpreneurial spirit that is currently lacking among irish people in general. The likes of Cullen and O'Leary in government would inspire us all to start thinking outside the box. The following picks are in my opinion the top people in the respective posts. They come from variouis political parties - FF,FG, Greens, Labour, SF and Independents - as well as leading business and media people. What your picks be?

    Taoiseach
    - Enda Kenney

Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food
    - Leo Vradkar

Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources
    - Simon Coveney

    Minister for Education and Skills
    - Eamonn Gilmore

Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Innovation
    - Bill Cullen

Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government
    - John Gormley

    Minister for Finance
    - Brian Lenihan

    Minister for Foreign Affairs
    - Jim McDaid

Minister for Health and Children (Ireland)
    - Michael O'Leary

Minister for Justice and Law Reform
    - Brian Cowen

    Minister for Social Protection
    - Ned O'Keefe

Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sport
    - John O'Donoghue

Minister for Transport - Mary Harney

Minister for Community, Equality and Gaeltacht Affairs
    - Senator Eoghan Harris

    Minister for Defence
    - Martin Ferris

Minister of State (with special responsibility for Children)
    - Michael Ring

Minister of State (with special responsibility for Labour Affairs)
    - Ivana Bacik

Minister of State (with special responsibility for European Affairs)
    - Timmy Dooley

Minister of State (with special responsibility for Overseas Development)
    - Dara Calleary

Minister of State (with special responsibility for Food and Horticulture)
    - George Hook

Minister of State (with special responsibility for Equality)
    - Senator Ronan Mullen

Minister of State (with special responsibility for Fisheries and Forestry)
    - Jackie Healy Rae

What kind of nonesense is this? People qualified to be ministers? Why on earth would we want experts in particular fields be the minister for that field?

    no it's dead serious.

Ferris? Probably the only TD with actual military exeprience. The rest of them would not know which end of a gun to fire!

Hook? Rumour is he will run for FG and he will have to be accomodated in a ministry. He is a cultured man with a fine palate - listen to his newstalk show if you don't believe me.

Mullen? Excellent speaker in the Senate and a legal expert I believe. He read the mind of the irish nation when he spoke out about the gay agenda.

Healy Rae? I'm not his biggest fan but he knows what people want in fairness to him - you can't ignore rural ireland!

eh? Cowen is a solicitor from Tullamore.

Lenihan? Will be remembered as a great finance minister in the future. Hailed by The Economist magazine as one of the finest finance ministers in the world.

If we have learned anything from the expenses scandals of late its that the politicians in this country have the good of the people a long, long way down there list of priorities.

Their main priority is to line their pockets for the duration of their tenure and surrendering some of the power that would allow them to do this is the last thing they would be willing to do.

A minister/politicians job is to be popular.

Let their advisors do the thinking.

We only need one politician, Pol Pat.

The same advisors who told them the property bubble would have a soft landing? And never told them their expenditure was unsustainable?

A national government would be a genuinely good idea. As constituted above, it wouldn't be a good reality. Brian Lenihan has been an abysmal Minister for Finance. He is getting an easy time because of his personal circumstances. It was he who bailed out Anglo-Irish Bank. If Éamon Ryan manages to bring broadband to every village across this state, as he has promised, he will be worthy of being in such a national government.

Oh, and you could not be serious with that complete and utter amadán Jackie Healy-Rea in any Irish government. The guy, and his entire family, have expenses up there with Rody Molloy, John O Donoghue and Ivor Callely. The Healy-Rea family are crooks by any standard.

HAHA! Eoghan "I'd lick Ahern's arse anyday" Harris?!?! Get a grip.

Why anyone would want Gormless in the cabinet is beyond me. Just because he's the Green's leader doesn't mean he's qualified to be Minister for the Environment.

Bill ****ing poxy Cullen?? What should we do with this 'inspiration', bend over and **** job opportunities? Good intentions change nothing.

Yes, and Healy-Rea, the crook clown, really is synonymous with "rural Ireland". Meanwhile I hope you won't be offended if we equate Bertie Ahern, Liam Lawlor and Ray Burke with "Dublin Ireland".
