Selling Tickets

    Hi all,

Am selling a gig ticket at the moment. The interested buyer is from a different part of the country to me. Says he will pay by either postal order or lodge money into my bank account.

Don't exactly feel safe giving bank details (internet etc) so is a postal order ok in these situations? I'm not entirely sure what they are either.

    Thanks very much in advance.

(Mods, feel free to move if in the wrong section)

Bank detail is fine. Just give your name, a/c number and sort code. There's nothing she can do with that information anyway. If she lodges in a branch of your bank (as opposed to a different bank) then you'll get it straight away.

Postal orders can be faked, and can take a week to clear. If you're both happy to wait, it's an option.

Yep, all they can do is lodge money, think about it logically, lots of bank staff have your info and could give it out, all people could do is lodge money to your account. I have several mates in the bank who said it was fine too, I have given out the info to strangers before myself.

I have never done it but another way to accept money for some would be via phone top up.

If you've ever written a cheque then you've given out all this information and more (a signature too), and people never worry about handing cheques over. Payment through bank is very safe for the recipient, it's the sender that takes all the risk as there's no way for them to reclaim the money if anything goes wrong.
