Corolla d4d remap or tuning box?

I have a 1.4 d4d corolla. I want a little more power and torque only sometimes so would a tuning box be the way to go as I can remove it when I want? Would it do much damage to the ecu or fly wheel?

there should be no damage since it will be remapped properly
go with perfomance exhaust system along for better results or decat standard one at least

My vote is a remap. Had one done recently myself to my 140 bhp 2006 Hyundai Sonata. Average increase on 60 on the torque bringing it up to 177 bhp. Well worth it.

the D4D cannot be remapped IIRC.
you need to go with a good brand tuning box.

Martin in Westward Engineering in Enfield does the official Tuning Boxes and he quoted me for a tuning box and K&N air filter on my old D4D Avensis.

he allows you to take it for 20 mins and if you notice no difference, you can hand it back!

I would suggest a remap. Something like this http://www.superchips.co.uk/search?make=36&fueltype=2&model=369&variant=1827 or a custom remap.

Off topic (sorry!) but thats a pretty good increase. Where you get that map done and did you get the car rolling road tested before and after to prove results?

Custom Remap = Excellent but expensive (needs to be preceded by a full diagnostic and engine characteristics check on rollers before and afterwards)

Generic Remap = Good and usually fairly cost effective (needs to be preceded by a full diagnostic run on rollers before and afterwards)

"Tuning Box" = the rip-off of the century. These boxes (any of them) contain only a single active electronic component, either a resistor or a variable resistor if the box has a "settings switch", that fools the ECU into over-fuelling. They may work fine within certain limits, but check if the "guarantee" they offer is for your engine of just for their "magic box". The boxes (usually minus the car specific cables / connectors) are made for about US$10 in places like China. Ultra high-tech and official my hat.

If anyone wants to improve diesel-engine performance, emissions and economy cost-effectively and safely, could I suggest they look at water-methanol injection systems as used extensively in (for example) North America.

Be wary of the guys who'll promise to do the world and all at your house (usually using a white van and a mobile phone), if you have problems, it's unlikely you'll ever hear from them again.

I don't sell any of this gear but I've used all of it at various stages and have had some good and bad experiences.

Joe @ Urban Performance(chippedire). Ya he had it up on a dyno. I've a print out of the graphs with before & after.

Apologies to OP if it actually can't be done. I just presumed it could be(seeing as d4d is basically toyota's badge for common rail injection, thought it would just be same thing as my CRDi).
