    That didn't take long!
So is it a genuine new device?
Does this mean that the preowned market is going to be flooded with iPads, as early adopters and Apple nuts rush to buy the latest confection to be extruded by Mr Jobs?

    I deliberately skipped the iPad 1st Gen & 4g iPhone .

iPad 3rd Gen (skipping next one) and iPhone 5gen is for me ;)

If i didnt control myself by this time next year I could well have :
    iPhone 3G
    iPhone 3Gs
    iPhone 4G
    iPhone5
    iPad1
    iPad2

Yea seems genuine article as they report manufactures registering parts for the iPad2 7' screen.

There was a thread about this last week.

A 7" screen on an iPad seems ridiculous. You're not getting the portability of a phone nor the screen size of the full tablet. I can't see anyone having an iPhone *and* a 7" iPad. Perhaps it's aimed at the non-SmartPhone market. People who'd like a portable device that's not their phone nor a huge tablet.

iPad Nano, iPad Mini? I'm skeptical.

Seamus your 100% right , but at this stage I am not going against Jobbs and his genius Marketing Dept .
I thought the iPad would be popular but sweet devine never this popular .

He either has the best market researchers ever or some hypnotic hold over everyone .

He could release the iShoite (piece of crap with an Apple logo) tomorrow and it would still be sold out in Apple stores .

Really? I have yet to see one outside of a store. iPhone is very populae in this country. I have never seen somebody with an iPad and I work in an industry where somebody would be waving one about sooner than later.

With the exception of not buying the 1st gen iPad - what's with all the skipping? What will the iPhone 5 have that this doesn't? Better hope it's not just a 4GS next year. :p

I don't get the 7" iPad either. If anything, after using an iPad I thought the screen was already too small to replace a laptop as a primary surfing/mailing device.

I'm with mixednuts on this, can't see it's point but Apple know their stuff.

The only reason I can see an 7" iPad before anything larger is a 7" iPad might be more feasible to add the 'Retina Display' technology without suffering as much of a cut in profits.

I can't for the life of me see the point of the 7" iPad. Jeez, Apple had enough trouble showing people where the market was for the original iPad (between the laptop and the smartphone)...

Yeah, and maybe a camera, or is that too early?

for what it's worth, I think that an iPod with a camera is far more likely.

iPod Touch with front facing camera pretty much a certainty for facetime.
The only rational for a 7" iPad is retnia display on the cheao, and a device potentially to compete with Sony eReaders etc. (But in a way it would be competing with itself in the iPad). If the 7" display was 960 x 640 then they could put it out with no dificulty. If it had a Pixel Qi display, that would be interesting... but.. regardless, it would only serve to fragment their market somewhat, leaving users confused as to what to buy, and end up buying nothing.
    Apple typically keeps it simple.
However, people were complaing about the weight of the iPad as an eReader, and for holding for long periods (think train commuters etc).

Who would buy one? Only if the price was cheap, which would then undercut iPod touch sales; Too expensive and it won't sell at all or just undercut iPad sales.

All in all, not gonna happen methinks. But pigs have flown before and will continue to no doubt..

id imagine the main reason for one is to improve portability and make it a more compelling choice as an e reader?

i have an ipad, i havent yet ditched my sony prs300 for the morning bus journey tho

Just don't see it happening I'm afraid. Looking forward to the next proper iPad though :D but it won't be until after Christmas. Damn sure.

Oh, well if PC world said it, it must be true.

The first iPad was only announced in January, so I really doubt that they will have another on out by the end of the year, well unless they really want to piss off consumers. The only thing they could do is release the exact same iPad, but with a front cam for facetime.

@mixednuts, so you are going to skip the next iPad no matter what, why not judge how good it is before you decide to wait for the next one. seems a little stupid. I think I will wait untill the 28th iPhone, I recon by then they will have fixed all the problems in the 27th.

Very presumptuous ?..And you know what they say about assumptions !

Never said anything about wanting bugs/problems fixed before I purchase a certain rev of any idevice ?

My waiting is based on the Technology out at certain point in time.
Take my 3GS and the iPhone4 for example ...Everything I require and most up to date Technology/Hardware is already in my 3GS , bar the camera and screen improvement , I dont need them right now in my life .

So i decided to wait til the next version to see if it brings the device in line with the latest Technologies available when it is released , not just a 4Gs but better.
My 3GS is perfect and any improvements I need are usually covered by firmware releases .
My next iPhone purchase will primarily be for any hardware improvements it may offer , otherwise my 3GS will keep up with the pace .

On the iPad ....I never buy the 1st version of any device , full stop .
If the rumours of the iPad2 been a 7 inch version are true , then yet again (like my iPhone) I dont need it in my life , hence skipping that aswell .

Nothing got do with " wait untill the 28th iPhone, I recon by then they will have fixed all the problems in the 27th. (BACK @ YA ! )
    "

Reading this thread, I reckon that the 7" iPad could well be sold as the replacement for the iPod Touch, which always seemed like a fairly redundant device, doubly so since the release of the iPad.

Re: the iSh1te, could be a winner, but there'd still be those buying chinese clone iSh1tes on ebay for 100, looking like sh1te but lacking a certain something, probably the "i" at the start.
Also, I'd wait for the HTC sh1te instead, more open source sh1te!
