Just wondering here: when a team wins the AI (be it hurling or football), who gets AI medals?

Is it the starting 15 in the final? All who played the final? All who played over all the championship games? The entire panel?

The panel all get one. But think its the panel on All Ireland final day.

The squad is handed to the ref before the game, that's the match day panel, they get one to a max number.

In real world what normally happens is the county board gets the medals (say 30) and then get replicas made as well, they are all mixed in together and handed out to all the people that are deemed entitled to a medal, back room staff, panel members, etc. As far as records are concerned though if your name isn't on the list you don't count :)

And before anyone says anything, no it doesn't matter if you are listed in the program or not :D

It used to be the names of the 21 players that were handed to the referee before the game. Wasnt one of the Hassetts the captain of Kerry a few years back and bcause he lost his place for the final and was not in the six subs he did not get a medal. I think after that it was changed and now that 24 or 30 medals are presented. If a county has more in their panel then its up to then to get them. Someone told me a copy costs over €600 a medal.
