hi folks, changed from 3gs to 4 and want to set up as i had before. i used to press the home key twice from home screen to see favorites, now i get a sub menu, can i get my favorites shortcut back?
also, when the phone rings, the lock screen lights up, slide to answer, as you would expect, but it goes black after a very short time. i then have to press the home button to bring the lock screen up again so i can answer the call. is there a way to extend the time the lock screen is displayed?

    thanks all!

double tapping the home key now invokes the multi tasking tray, which shows you what app's are "open". It doesn't use much more battery at all, as the app's are generally in a "saved" state so you can get back to them quickly. Some things may still work, for example sending a text using eirtext used to stop if you exited the app, now there is the possibility that it will continue sending when you exit as it is still running. I'm not sure if this happens with eirtext, as it is an app by app thing, ie each app has to support it. To close these app's, just open the tray (double tap) and then hold one of the app's until they wiggle, much like rearranging your home screen. You will see a red circle with a minus sign in it. tap the sign on the app's you wish to close. This does not delete the app's. It generally leaves you where you were in the app (eg in the middle of typing a text to someone) it just may take fractionally longer to get there and if you wish to reference the information in one app while using a different one, you will have to reopen it via the home screen, rather than the multi tasking tray, which is available at any stage while using the phone.

So no, unfortunately you can't get the favourites shortcut back

no way that I'm aware of to keep the lock screen lit up for longer, on my iPhone 4 i'm pretty certain it stays lit up as long as it's ringing. It's on its way back to Apple atm so I can't check.

Not possible, I'm afraid. Apps stop executing when you close them. They're only occupying memory and even they they'll be fully killed off if another running app needs more memory.

There are a few exceptions to this, in that some can request to finish a task, be notified of VOIP calls or when you reach a location.

I've another question. I've 2 email accounts, how do I get into the sent items of either? Can't seem to do it.

Are the apps defo not wasting battery by not being fully closed out?

on mailbox page, below all inboxes, and the individual inboxes there should also be two individual accounts, go in to them and you'll see all the folders for each account.
