I was in Galway a few weeks back and noticed an unusual amount of used cars at Al Hayes in Portumna. They were stuffed absolutely everywhere - on checking Carzone he has a whopping 532 cars in stock..

Just wondering if any dealers have higher than this or is this the highest ? I had previously thought that dealers were running down their second hand stuff to carry as little as possible - clearly I'm wrong !

Probably a good time to bargain.

Its been that way for years and I assure you there is more than 532 cars in stock! And you won't get them at a bargain basement price, although I believe they are getting better

My experience with Al Hayes is that they don't bargain at all. It seems they'd prefer to let cars rot than sell at a good price.

They have a reputation for very keen prices on new cars, but will not budge on the price of a used car, prefering to leave them rot as you say.

Couple of friends of mine went out to a place on the Nangor road recently enough. Found two cars they liked, in the same lot and thought it'd be an idea if they tried to buy both together and trade in their own cars at the same time. Hopefully getting a better deal.

They went in and spoke to the owner, told him what cars they were interested in and asked how much he'd be willing to trade off their cars (01 Fiesta and 02 Punto). The guys response was "fcuk all", they asked how much is fcuk all, he replied "not very much" and offered to take 200 quid off the price of the two cars they wanted to buy, in exchange for theirs.

The lads told him if he took 500 off the price, in exchange for their cars he'd have a deal and he told them no chance. So they were standing there thinking about it and he said "cmon lads, are you doing anything here or what?"

The lads just walked out once he said that. Complete arsehole.

They both got cars they were happy with elsewhere.

Ps. To give you an idea, the combined price of the cars they were looking to buy was working out at around €8000, so not exactly a sale to be fobbed off.
