Appendectomy - no insurance

    Hi boarsies!

A friend of mine thinks he might have appendicitis, he already has set an appointment with GP to get diagnosed.

The thing is he has lost his job not even 2 weeks ago. He's on JB and haven't applied for a medical card yet.

I was wondering if you have any idea what costs is he looking at when it comes to appendectomy ?

What are his options now ?

Acute appendicits (if that is what it is) is a medical emergency, he will be admitted as an emergency and will only be charged whatever the nightly rate is these days.

If he thinks it is appendicitis, he needs to get seen asap (I sense from the tone your post that there is no sense of urgency here). A perforated appendix is a world of pain.

Why is it that with these kind of posts it's always "A friend of mine..." that has the problem, never the poster?

Your "friend" needs to do two things, both today:

    1. Get "his" medical card application in.
    2. See "his" doctor.

Other than that, we can give no other advice here.
