I've looked with curiosity as Dublin Bus have publicized this with the initiatives to give cut price three day rambler tickets, if you show your car keys. What a great idea. The amount of people I have seen with these tickets on a daily basis is huge.

However this does not seem to be due to any great shift in us from cars to buses, more the fact that the shops are giving these tickets to everyone in place of the normal price three day rambler tickets at full price. They are also advising people to buy 2x3 day tickets at 10 euro each instead of a 5 day rambler.

I know of plenty of people who know this 'trick' and everyone who asks for a three day rambler in numerous spars etc is being given the cheater tickets when I guess the idea was these were for cheaters only. Some even have a sign up saying they are extending the offer to everyone regardless of if they had a car.

I wonder if the amount of business they bring in extra through the offer is greater than the amount they are losing on the people who would normally pay full price. Many people are bulk buying to get six days travel for the price of 5, and the retailers seem only too happy to oblige!

reduced "standard" ticket sales will show this to DB anyway.

Its the most stupid campaign I've heard in a while. "Cheat" on your car:confused:

A monthly ticket is €100, so its not like they've set the cost of this three day ticket at a shockingly low price. If it encourages people to buy tickets its a good thing. Tickets mean less fare evasion. They want people to switch over to tickets.
