Processor Help!

After much head-scratching, I've decided to go for an Acer 5741 laptop. It was a toss-up between this or a Samsung R530.

But I'm a little confused by the processors on offer with the Acer. One version of the 5741 has an AMD Athlon II Dual Core. The other has an Intel Core i3.

What's the difference? Which would be the better version to go for??

All I want from it is the ability to do different tasks without crashing, reliability, watching movies, general home computing. I'm not a big gamer...

    TIA guys! :)

    i3-550 4 MB SmartCache 3.2 GHz 2.5 GT/s DMI 2
    i3-540 4 MB SmartCache 3.06 GHz 2.5 GT/s DMI 2
    i3-530 4 MB SmartCache 2.93 GHz 2.5 GT/s DMI 2

The Athalon IIs run from 1.8 to 3.2 ghz.

Essentially there are two processor manufacturers out there, AMD and Intel. AMD are regarded as the cheaper option sometimes. For Adobe products its best to choose Intel, but for most tasks it just depends on which is faster, both are dual cores. Find out which chip clocks faster and go with that one.

Thanks for the reply Lethal Bullet...

The AMD is 2.1GHZ. The Intel i3-350 is 2.26 GHZ.

From this, I'm assuming the Intel is faster - am I right??

    Thanks again! :)

Yep, slightly. It may well use less power too which is nice in a laptop.

OK thanks. Think it'll be the Intel version then! :)
