So those are the latops I am looking at. Very sorry for yet another recommendation thread :o im having a hard time choosing. I have a vostro 1500 and its been great for 3 years, so seriously considering the 3500 now. Only problem with that is max 512GB video/4GB RAM and ive read the new media buttons suck :/

The insprion has 1GB video memory available, but I cant really see the difference between the two asides that and the nasty colours they come in tbh :pac:

Ive never had a sony vaoi, ive read good things? What do you guys think of E/S series?

The xps studio 16 looks great and I might be able to stretch budget to that but im afraid its very fancy so I might be inclined to break it :P Is it worth the money do you know?

Will be using the laptop for all the usual internet/media purposes, some video/audio encoding, graphic/web design applications, coding and odd the odd game or two. So a bit of power will go a long way. Looking for an i5, 4+ RAM, 1GB vid if possible.

    Any opinions? :pac:

i am in the same situation as you- have a vostro 1500 for just under 3 years and am looking to upgrade.

looked at all the models you have mentioned but for one reason or another didn go for them. for example, the inspirons 1gb graphics card is pretty basic.

in the end i went for this:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003UB3972/ref=oss_product

has great spec and price-wise compares very well to all the above

same situation as both of you :)

I'm slightly more tempted by the Studio since it has a better graphics card for roughly the same money....

Haha, seems like a common dillemma :D Spud, have you recieved your laptop yet? If so, how is it? Will definetly consider that option anyway.

The studio is tempting alright quarryman, the screen is also supposed to be far superior. The shiny portions of it though will be fingerprint magents :/

Any more info on the screens?

The Inspiron has "TFT Display with TrueLife™" and the Studio has "High Definition+ ". I would have thought the Inspiron screen sounds better :)

Here are some reviews I was looking at...

    Studio: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xX1v4D7JQ3k
    Vostro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvrVVFyaD6M

Studio screen seems to win it, but Im still unsure myself :pac: I really dont think my vostro screen is so bad.
