CineXPlayer or alternative for iphone ?

CineXPlayer is a video player & file transfer utility that allows you to transfer & play avi files on an ipad without converting them to mp4.

As it's currently ipad only, does anyone know of an alternative to it for the iphone ?

would anyone recommend an avi file converter (free!) for a mac???

I use oplayer. It is free and plays divx/avi files on the iPhone without conversion. You transfer files to the phone via the app tab on iTunes rather than dragging and dropping.

i use miro to play avi files but recently the sound has been out of sync and it's really frustrating. i don't know if it's the file itself or miro. sometimes it will be in sync, others not. annoying

    Looking forward to trying this!

If you have a jailbroken phone Mplayer works very well and has played every format I've thrown at it including flash files. You have to put avi/divx files into the root folder of your iphone so you need to be able to SHH into your iphone but that's very easy. It's the equivalent of using it as a thumb drive. There are loads of SHH guides on youtube. It's well worth it.

So I've tried this but I encountered a problem pretty early on at this part: When I go to the itunes folder on my PC and then to the Mobile Applications folder I only find the ipa for CineXPlayer. There's no rar file and no sign of any "plist" file to modify.
Did you find something what's described here ?
    Am I missing something ?:o

    4. In winrar open (double click) the folder named ‘Payload’, then ‘CineXplayer.app’
    5. then extract the info.plist to your desktop (or where ever you want, i don’t care) and open it in a plist editor ( I used plist editor for windows)
    6. Change:
    <key>UIDeviceFamily</key> <array>
    <integer>2</integer> </array>
    To:
    <key>UIDeviceFamily</key> <array>
    <integer>1</integer> </array>

The *.ipa file is essentially a folder - the files you are looking for are in it. On a Mac, you can right click an *.ipa and select "View package contents" to see the files within.

The link provided says to open the *.ipa with WinRar or an equivalent unarchiver on Windows. You then should see the files within, including the plist that you need to mod.

Thank you very much. That really helped :)

I have run into another problem however. I finished the tutorial and the app appeared in installous* as a grey box with no label. I tried to install it anyway and got a message that it was installed but I have no icon for it all on my springboard. Not even a grey box. I've tried rebooting and respringing, even reinstalling but get nothing.

Anyone got any ideas what I might do about that ?

    * just to say that despite talk of installous here it's not about using cracked apps etc. Only used as an alernative way of installing a free itunes app.

TBH, I haven't tried this hack at all - I only have a lowly 3G at the moment (but the iPhone 4 should be shipping soon :D) and it just wouldn't be worth it - plus, got an iPad anyway and CineXPlayer is very nice indeed...

Anyway, back to your current problem, I don't want to go into much detail here since it may be against forum rules, but you can get iTunes to sync unsigned apps to a jailbroken iPhone and as a result, you should be able to sync the modified *.ipa directly, without using the app which we don't speak of around here... It's only a guess, but should work.

Nice one on the ipad and the new iphone on the way! Ya lucky duck :D

Thanks for the advice J-BLK. I tried that but it didn't work. I then modified the info.plist file again to change it from OS 3.2 to OS 3.1. After that it did install and show up on the springboard but it the app itself will only launch for a second before crashing.

Seems alot of people have the problem.

As for your lowly iphone 3G I have a lowly ipod 2g! From what I've read it should work for 3g if you want to give it a go. :)

    WOW, JUST WOW

I am highly impressed with OPlayer, full screen, great quality and ability to skip to the end, fully xvid supported, we should rename this thread and sticky it, the iPhone now has xvid support.

I actually delighted, this save me sooo much hassle, has anyone tried video out on it?

in itunes, goto iphone then app, scroll down to the end and you will see oplayer, click on it and you can then drag and drop files into the iphone.

I checked this out but it seems I don't have the "file sharing" section in itunes that you need to transfer files for apps like Oplayer.
Are you on OS 4 ?

yes, you can also add them through wifi, or if you are jailbroken you can add it through iPhone browser or ssh.

What folder do I put them in the iphone browser ?

It can't seem to find any of the media files I added through the var/mobile/media
which is where I'd generally add files to play in a JB app.

Its there, but not paticular folder.

    its in /var/mobile/Applications/<random string>/Documents

you will have to look for it, but once you find it make a note of the folder
