Question for Lads - Sex Life after Vasectomy

    Hi,

First of all, I am not looking for medical advice but simply need to know what it's like.

Our last baby is on the way, and it will be our last as we have discussed this. My wife & I have never discussed this but I am planning ahead I need to know what to expect when I have to have it done. But it will not happen until the baby has arrived safe & sound and we have both agreed that this is what is to be done.

The thought of having it done scares the hell out of me. We enjoy a very healthy love life. I adore my wife and love making her happy both inside and outside the bedroom. We make love very often and we both enjoy it.

So, my question is - what is life like after a vasectomy? Is making love the same afterwards? Is there any difference between post & pre vasectomy? Does the thought of not firing "live rounds" affect the man? Do you do it less often?

I would be grateful to hear from others based on experience. I would not be able to discuss this with a doctor as I would be too embarrassed.

ok, i'm female but my partner has had a vasectomy

he had it prior to meeting me

from my point of view, i'd never have known if he hadnt told me, there's no appreciable difference in the amount, look etc of semen

i've asked him how he felt immediately after and in the longer term, and he said it had no negative impact on him, made no difference to his arousal, his performance or his orgasm. if anything, it gave him a greater sense of freedom as he didnt have to worry about becoming a dad.

    hope this helps.

Thank you very much for coming back to me.

I know I have a bit of time before I have to get it done, but I want to prepare myself. This is going to be a major hurdle for me to cross but it has to be happen.

The thought of it really frightens the life out me. Not the pain of it (if there is any) but the thought that it might affect mine / our life afterwards. I cannot allow it to because I love everything we have.

Ive had it done,no difference at all re the ejaculation same colour, same amount etc..

With regard to performance,i find it even better than before the job, not to have the thought of an unwanted pregnancy and having already decided that our family is complete,no restrictions re condoms, healthier for mrs as no pill etc..

With regard to the procedure,i got it done in coole clinic in westhmeath,it took about 40mins all told and i was awake and talking with the doctor throughout the op.

The pain..........the pain was not bad really, although for a few days it felt every now and again like i got a good kick in the goolies!!!so a tight pair of briefs and some neurofen should be kept close by at all times.

Check out Coole clinic they have a very good Q & A section on their website.

Moonshadow - thank you very much for that. That has re-assured me a lot.

The pain part of it doesn't bother me. I would be delighted that my wife doesn't have to go near the pill. But more importantly for us, that it does not spoil the enjoyment of those moments for either of us (this is what I am more concerned about).

I'll have a look at the Q&A section of that site at home tonight. Thankfully I have time on my side as baby doesn't arrive for another while. But I will be prepared when this discussion starts and not run around the place like a headless chicken.

I'll cross the fear / loss of manhood hurdle quietly now.

    Thank you again.

OP, I had it done about 2.5 months ago. Echoing the prev posters - your concern regarding any difference in manhood/performance - ZERO.

If I were you, I would look at getting it done sooner, rather than later. You don't want to be out of action (not just the bedroom) in the latter stages of pregnancy, or when the baby comes.

I had it done three years ago, and like others have said, no difference. Its probably even better now, there's now worries about getting pregnant etc.
The only time I've heard of people having problems, its always been psychological e.g the "firing blanks" issue, not feeling like a full man etc. So long as you don't have any doubts in this area, you should be fine.

No pain, minimal discomfort, and, in my case, I was playing football six days later!!!!!

Now, in terms of performance? I'm still at the ready, all I need is herself to be willing and able, a little more often. No side-effects in that Dept, at all.

Dr Lynn, in Drogheda was the man, and comes (ha, ha) highly recommended.

Really, thank you very much everyone for your feedback.

I am much more confident about this now.
