    I've wore black to a wedding before and nothing bad happened and the bride and groom are still happily married!!

    Personally I don't think it is appropriate to wear solid black, but I'll admit I am conservative on this issue - it is more and more common. However I've seen quite a few bridesmaids in black recently (presumably partly on the assumption that none of the guests would) so that might be something to be wary of. I'm sure you'll be fine though but if you have any concerns check with the bride or bridesmaids.

    I only bridesmaided once, and the bride specifically did not want people to wear black or cream/white/ivory, I ended up in a row with someone over if because they thought the bride's wishes were ridiculous (re: cream). Sorry, she's the bride, she gets what she wants :)
